Well compatibility is just half of the truth - you also need a different head unit with that screen. The head unit that you have has two hardware versions - one for a smaller and one for a larger screen (see this thread)

Well, you have HU_CHAMP and you have to prepare yourself that it probably can't be coded for the larger screen... You would need to retrofit a newer head unit (such as HU_NBT), which is expensive and more difficult than just changing the screen :-(

quick question, i have a HU_Champ2 unit on an F30 , 2012 and want to upgrade to a bigger screen.
I am able to find the coding parameter
> 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display but not able to find the parameter to choose the display resolution > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480

Any advice?

HU_ENTRYNAV (available from end of 2014) is the first head unit, which supports switching from a small to a larger screen. HU_CHAMP or HU_CHAMP2 cannot be coded for a higher resolution, you'll have to replace the whole unit which is not easy to do.

If you have the 6.5" screen, you should have HU_ENTRYNAV2, even if you have business navigation. NBT_EVO comes with the 8.8" screen.

To be sure, get an ENET cable/adapter ($20 on eBay) and check the head unit via eSys software - you'll need both nevertheless, if you want to code the larger screen.

Then you have HU_ENTRYNAV2, eventhough it has tiles and looks like EVO. But that's okay, it should be possible to code it for a 8.8" screen.

The 65506822626 is listed in RealOEM as the 8.8" for my year, but they are not out there used.
So can I use a 65509292248 sccreen, listed in RealOEM as:

with the 65506822626, with proper resolution & no voltage prob?

If it worked for mossmotorsport, it'll work for you. Don't know if he (or anyone else) tried yet.

EDIT: You can check in eSys that you see the two options (breites_display + resolution). If they're there, then there's a great chance that the larger screen will work. If you can get it off eBay with a return period, you can try without being stuck with a useless screen.

To be honest, I'm not sure either. I have HU_ENTRYNAV (car made in 2016) and altough RealOEM says that 65509387453 (LCI screen) shouldn't be compatible, it works IMHO even better than the compatible screen (65509292248). See my earlier post for more details).

Noone has posted here about retrofitting a 8.8" on a HU_ENTRYNAV2, maybe because these units appeared just last year in combination with the smaller screen. In 2016, you got the newer NBT_EVO only with prof. nav and 8.8" screen and people with 6.5" screens got the older iDrive 4.2 with HU_ENTRYNAV.

My suggestion - find a good deal on eBay for either of the screens I mentioned and if it won't work, either send it back (some sellers offer this if you pay for return shipping) or sell it again yourself.

Or, if you aren't feeling lucky, wait until someone here tries this retrofit by himself ;-).

I've searched a little bit and found out that:

1) HU_ENTRYNAV2 is nicknamed "EntryEVO"
2) it uses APIX2 voltage, so the pre-LCI screen probably won't work

So either try the LCI screen (65509387453), which may work, or wait until someone sells the newest type (65506822626).

Post a photo of your screen, or check via eSys (you'll need an ENET cable). Do you have business navigation?

You can use Pre-LCI/APIX1 screens on units that are LCI/APIX2 using the cable above.
