Scott, could you tell us anything about splitting the 3 series on 3 series for the sedan/touring and 4 series for coupe/cabrio models? In the "5 and 6 series" way. There have been rumors in the past about this in bmw's marketing department...
When we conceived the E92 and E93 and of course the E82 and E88 the plan was to rename them as the 4er and 2er respectively to provide a continuity with the recently launched 6er.

My first look at these cars were identified with 4er and 2er designations.
In the end the renaming of the M3 eventually ended the strategy.
But in today's E92 and E93, the differences between the sedan and Touring are very much evident as it is a proper Coupe and not a 2dr sedan.
And this has made the Coupe and Cabrio our most successful yet. The new F32 and F33 will again use this philosophy as it has, we learned brought new customers to BMW because it is not a sedan turned coupe but a car with it's own personal style.

The rumour is that there will be no M6- but that a rival to the R8 will be made as a halo for the range.
That is a statement that has been mis-interpreted and refers to the current
E63/E64 M6 which like the 6er Coupe/Cabrio will end production this October.
The new car will arrive in Europe immediately after it's World Premiere next year @ Geneva prior to first communication around the end of this year.
European sales will begin in the Spring with US sales commencing early summer.
In some markets 6er Coupe production has already stopped.

Our R8 Competitor will be a Production version of the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept and will stay true to the sustainable Performance ideas as the Concept. Why follow when you can lead? and that is the plan for this car it is to be like nothing else on the market - a different kind of sports car concept, it's for the future.

Sounds good, an affordable 918 Spyder, right?

Best regards,
south

Bringing the R8 down ain't that easy. I hope BMW can succeed.

Looks to be more of a practical coupe than the 918.

I am curious about the Z2 variants. If the initial sub-1k K models make it to production then it would seem appropriate to apply some of the ED tricks to make a smaller, cheap mimic of the VEDC.
