High rpm when starting the engine
Hi everyone, I have a 2013 328i xdrive with 42k miles on it.
I recently noticed that when I start my car in the morning, the rpm is really high and then goes down really slowly. So it jumps to 17000 rpm when the engine starts and takes about 40 to 50 seconds to go down to 700 rpm. I'm not sure if my engine sounds normal but I don't think I hear whining noise from the engine. Is the rpm normal? Or should I bring this to the local dealership soon? Thank you guys in advance! |

Hey there,
I think you mean 1,700 RPM...otherwise the con-rod and valves would probably be shooting out of your hood at 17,000 RPM. As for the cold start behavior, that sounds normal. The starting revs sound a little higher than normal, but as long as it settles down as it warms up, should be good. As for the whining noise, I hear the same one and asked a technician last week when my car was at the dealer for service, he mentioned that is normal and also goes away once the car is warm. |
