91 and E85 Mix for MPPSK Cars

I have been doing some research about doing this since we can’t get 93 out here and it looks like this is ok to run. Anyone trying this? Mixing 2-3 gallons with a tank of 91?

Thank you for that very informative post! Only thing is my car has the B58 do you know if it would work similar? And has your mileage decreased using the mix?

Interested in this as well. The write up was informative but I'm not sure how pertinent it would be on a B58+MPPSK.

i noticed a difference in MPG when im running e85 with 91 on my f30 335i... i would say with a whole tank, i would be short about 50 miles compared to just 91... that can also factor from a heavier foot when im running flex.

You will definitely see a dip in MPG, it's science (or is it physics?)!

As for if you need it with MPPK... It's hard to say for sure without looking at logs and timing correction but, I would do it. CA gas is crap (Seems like Canadian gas is in the same category as well)

I did some logging without a tune (map 0) on MHD and there was a lot of timing correction going on when using straight 91 octane.

In the MHD beta chat there was a lot of discussion regarding timing being pulled and how our stock DME programming pulls timing.

Hope that helps.

Don't we also need to upgrade the Low pressure fuel pump to be e85 compatible?

This is from Terry at Burger Motorsports over on the N54tech.com forum:

“E85 can be mixed in but with trade offs. The BMW B48/B58 platform has an internal fuel cap that causes the DME to reduce it's internal boost target as fuel volume increases above expected levels. Since E85 requires a higher fuel volume the net result is a lower boost target. While small mixtures of 10-20% can be used to increase lower octane fuels expect a little less boost when running it. If equipped with the factory PPK tuning the internal fuel limit is higher and you can effectively get away with a little heavier ethanol mixture.”

So it looks like MPPSK cars can run some E85 but would love to hear from a member currently running it on stock MPPSK 340.

Wow that’s a big decrease! I think the n55 can run more e85 than the b58. I’m going to try 2 to 3 gallons after break in.

I'll wait for your report back on how it goes! I just hit 500 miles tonight...going to give it a little longer.

Well I drove about 40 miles on a mix of 91 and two gallons of E85 today. Definitely noticed the decreased MPG but also the car felt underpowered at times. Additionally the burbles were more muted. Just wish we had 93 here.

Really, well from what I gathered reading Terry at Burger Motorsports post about b58 tuning on the n54tech forum is that the amount of fuel into the cylinders needs to be increased when running e85 and the MPPSK increases the fueling limit. But I just got my car, have about 180 miles on it and I will try 2 gallons of e85 after break in. Once fuel light comes on in our cars how much gas is left in tank?

I think it's about eight litres (approx. two gallons) for the warning.

Scofflaw maybe the ecu needs time to adjust to the fuel. Maybe in another 100 miles it will perform better.
