I have my '13 F30 with 5,6XX miles in for service for a short list of gripes (below).

Just some quick feedback on the F10 528i X-drive loaner they gave me: The first thing is that I don't really "feel" like I am driving a bigger car in day to day driving, it's nice, and I really like the overall interior feeling. My loaner has 15,XXX miles, and so far I haven't noticed any interior rattles or squeaks (big contrast from all of the rattling and buzzing in my F30). My biggest gripe about the 528 interior is the same I had about the base model F30 loaner I had last time--the steering wheel is so puny and cheap feeling. My other gripe is the N20 engine, it may be "OK" in the F30, but man does it feel gutless in the F10. The N20 plus the auto transmission is downright sluggish and did not feel at all like the experience in the F30...not smooth, a bit of vibration in the seat idling at a stoplight, not exactly the "refined" feeling I would expect in a 5 Series. The car does handle nicely for a bigger car, felt solid and planted when I pushed it hard in the curves, but I can definitely say I have ZERO interest in ever owning an F10 528Xi. I MIGHT be tempted by a 535i or 550i M Sport someday...or an M5, but I don't think they will ever give me any of those three as a loaner.

Here is my list for the service appointment, I'm not optimistic that they will resolve the clunk sound or the rattles:

1. Thunk/clunk sound from steering/suspension components on driver’s side when going over a bump, regardless of speed. (based on what I've read here, I'm clearly not the only one experiencing this one)

2. Rattle on passenger side. Something is loose and rattles under the dash/glovebox area.

3. Buzzing sound inside dash, behind/beneath the nav screen. Sympathetic resonance buzzing in the dash from engine/exhaust revving between 2500-4000rpm during acceleration.

4. Minimum oil level warning. Sporadically received alert that the oil level is at the minimum. If I turned off the car, restarted, and measured the oil level again, it went back to normal status.

5. Brakes make a “ticking” sound. M Performance brakes make a constant ticking sound while driving, which becomes more pronounced when applying the brakes

6. Loose rear license plate bracket. The plastic fastener on the right side of the plate holder is loose and will pop out every time I close the trunk.

7. Recode the auto start/stop feature to remember the last setting

The F10 is one heck of a solid car, it almost feels as solid as a Mercedes S-class. I agree that the 4 banger does not belong in a big car such as the F10.

The 528i N20 is not exactly slow according to measurements done by C&D. 0-60 in 5.9s & 0-100 in 15.9s, 1/4 mile in 14.5s, 5-60 in 6.8s, 30-50 in 3.3s & 50-70 in 4.4s.
It compares well with cars such as MB E350.

I had a 750Li for the weekend a while back. A dealership just gave it to me because they can. All I can say is wow, size is not a problem in the 750Li, the car was up to task for a lot of the punishment I gave her. I am not surprised the 528 was just as competent

535i is a little better, but not by a WHOLE lot. I've got 2 annoying noises to take care of for my car, the Nav/Dash "chirp" over bumps, and the paper crackling noise from the passenger door.

Sucks about the M Perf Brakes, they seem to be giving more headache than help from reviews I've read...
