"Enable 'Assist Stolen Vehicle Recovery' to be displayed on remote service"

Well it turns out after testing it today, I'm able to track my car using the remote app over distances greater than the regular 1.2km. I have so far tracked the car at 5.2km and 15km! What I'd like to do now is to share this for others to code and test - as I said back in January, this is a potential game changer for me.

The biggest challenge is that I'm not often that far away from my car so I need to test it either when I'm away or when my wife has the car (although she doesn't go far). I may take the train to work tomorrow just to test it out!

For anyone else wanting to give it a go:

HU_NBT > 3003 > ASSIST_SVR_SHOW > AKTIV
I coded that myself and unfortunately, I still get the old error message saying that the car is too far away

Did it simply work out of the box for you?

Works as standard now, without coding:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1118848

You just need to get the over-the-air services update so that the "Enable GPS Tracking" option appears under "Settings" in the iDrive.

Hmm, interesting as a number of us do NOT have OTA ability with the car, just update via USB.

If you have connected services then this update is delivered OTA. It appeared on mine without my doing anything but you can force a Service Update.

AFAIK minor updates can be one OTA; significant updates, GPS mapping etc is USB only.

I haven't changed any setting, currently 10 miles away from the car and the BMW iphone app is showing me where my F34 is parked.

Cool feature, just found this in my settings menu, must have been done OTA. But as a potential security feature, surely this needs an option to lock with a PIN - is there a general locking option for iDrive settings?

I've not had the pleasure yet.

Although I do see Mrs NTG every Friday for Happy Hour

Oh, think she's at the door

Whilst in the connected drive area, press the option button and there should be an option for update, press it and wait until it says complete.

very much doubt it, as soon as the car is nicked, they'll disable the tracking from the settings in the car.

Surely BMW can still see regardless?

You think they couldn't have seen in the first place?

They could always have seen if they wanted, they either never wanted to or didn't want to share it.

Woahh..back way the feck up...

Is it possible to change the colour of the instrument panel lights from the standard orange??

I tried changing lighting once, the only thing I could figure how to change were the little tiny ambient lights in the roof... From orange to white. Barely noticed the difference.

I've just been out and checked and dont have any option to change GPS settings. I can only assume older cars dont have the ability to get software updates wirelessly. Mines a late 2013 build.

Mines June 14.

There was a thread on this a while back about those that have OTA and those that don't, BMW and local dealer proved to be pathetically pathetic.

Does a USB update do what an OTA update does? If so, I've done the latest USB update and I still have no GPS option.
