There have been about six billion threads on RFTs over the years. Most of us hate them, and many of us - after giving them a go - dumped them for GFTs and a can of fix-a-flat. That is what I did and have never looked back. Michelin Pilots have been quieter and handle much better.

http://www.dynaplug.com/products.html

The key is to fix the tire before the pressure gets low enough and/or before you've driven on it far enough to cause sidewall damage, which will eventually result in a bubble. The reason BMW and the tire manufacturers tell you not to fix it is that they don't want to be potentially held responsible if a bubble results and the tire suffers total disintegration.
Bill, thanks for posting the dynaplug link. I have hated the idea of no spare since I got the car and this looks like a good way to allay my concerns about getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat due to a nail or whatever.

The website has a lot of good info on it as well as very informative video's and a FAQ section. and
Discount Tire will also provide hazard a insurance for your new tires that came with the car. I paid about $130 for it.

Might want to get your wheels balanced after the flat fixed.

I'm ditching my RFTs as soon as it's time for new tires. Either Bridgestone Pole Positions or Michelin PSSs.

Pirelli has the full 12 month replacement including all road hazards. I have had 3 replaced by my BMW selling dealership. You pay upfront and the dealer is reimbursed by Pirelli, then the $ is returned to you.

Where do you do your driving, through construction sites? The last tire I blew was in 1972.

My 2009 e92 was awful, noisy, and harsh with Conti's. My 2014 F32 had pirellis. They were great!
I've had both Contis and the Pirelli P7 Cinturato. The p7's are at 25k miles now and I expect I'll get 32k. The ride is better than the Conti RFT's and they're less $$'s. The local BMW dealer sells them for $166-($800 mounted/balanced for 4) same as discount tire. Not debating the RF vs GF's here...just comparing the two OE RFT's.

You can't be serious? You live in NH, and you haven't seen the countless stories of mass amounts of people with tire damage from potholes the past 2 winters?

“Pothole killer”, the latest machine to fix potholes around NJ

By Sibile Marcellus, @ChasingSibile

Essex County, New Jersey -
As the snow starts to disappear, roads across New Jersey are left with potholes.

The state has invested $4 million to fix the pothole issue and recently unveiled massive machines dubbed “pothole killers”.

The machines can fill potholes at a rapid pace by injecting liquid asphalt into the roads. It only takes one person to operate.

People will start seeing signs across the state warning to be prepared to stop if there's a pothole killer truck ahead.

Without the machine, normally they would have to first cold patch the potholes with a crew, as a temporary fix, and then come back to hot patch it.

In Essex County, the streets are covered in potholes but Chief of Staff, Phil Alagia, explains why they are not using the "pothole killers".

“The way we are doing it now, the old school way, where we're actually filling the holes it actually seems to last a little longer for us and we are very happy with the work that we do. You know, if it ain't broke don't fix it, except if it's a pothole then you have to fix it.” he said.

If you hit a pothole, it could cost you thousands of dollars in damage, from a blown out tire, to a cracked rim, to wheel and suspension repair costs.

As quick as the state and counties are moving to fill potholes, you can file a claim against them if your car is damaged by one.

Last year, there were over 2,000 claims but the state only paid out for 12 of them.

Of course. That's why I don't use low profile tires. Potholes are no worse now than they have been in the past. What's driven the ever increasing increasing tire and wheel damage from them in the last fifteen years or so has been the move to larger and larger wheels and smaller and smaller aspect ratio tires. Also, potholes in New Hampshire get fixed within days of their occurring. I don't worry about driving New Hampshire roads in the spring, but driving in the greater New York City area in spring doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy at all.

Sorry--I didn't mean you can't be serious about not blowing a tire since '72; I meant about seeming surprised and asking if the posters were driving in construction zones.

Lower profile tires are the main reasons for the problems, but I don't agree it is no worse than in the past. Potholes around my area are forming this winter in the same places as last winter because all the road crews do is patch, rather than actually repave roads that desperately need it. It all comes down to squeezed budgets and deferred maintenance, which is worse today than in the past.

The Michelin MXM4's on my loaner were way better than the Pirelli Cinturatos on my car. That's what I'd buy next.

That's mainly because water from melting snow settles into the same low places in the roads every year. They can be prevented entirely with good road construction, including using crushed rock as a substrate instead of sand. It costs more to build a road the right way in the first place, but over the long term lower maintenance costs and longer road life more than make up for that. But as a politician's long term vision never extends beyond the next election doing it right the first time isn't part of their agenda.

This car was my first one with RFTs......I was done with them after the 25 mile drive home from the dealership. A car on COMFORT shouldn't shake violently and make you cringe after going over a minor crack in the roadway.

My Audi's on DYNAMIC suspension are more comfortable than my BMW on COMFORT.

They are still on the car as I simply have not made up my mind on what to replace them with right now. LOL

Got the wheel/tire insurance on first 3 BMWs. Won't on this one. Just not worth it. Hate the RFT and unfortunately BMW doesn't offer an option to not get them. With all the complaints about RFTs, you'd think the manufacturers would work to make them more "likable".

I don't understand why if everybody hates rft's, BMW only offers them. Because of the cost and weight of a spare?? Doesn't seem worth damaging the driving experience. I'm picking up my F33 in two weeks. I'll prob keep the tires until they need to be replaced and go to a normal tire. That doesn't void the warranty does it?

The Contis on my '06 were horrible (16") but the 17" Contis on my '09 (17) were actually fine. In the 06, I replaced them with 18" Conti DWSs and kept a plug kit and pump in the trunk.

With the '09, I did get the wheel/tire warranty because of our potholes. 2 years into having the car, I hit, not a pothole, but a chunk of asphalt patch that someone didn't press down and it bent the wheel. BMW replaced the wheel and both front tires. (guess they had to match treads for xdrive or something).

I'm trying to find reviews of Bridgestone's new driveguard run flat. Nothing really yet.

I do miss the DWS and I might get those next. And good job on the dynaplug link. Ordered one!

I get why BMW uses RFTs; no debating that they are safer, but they cost a small fortune. The technology also hasn't come along enough yet to make them durable and comfortable.

I did like the Conti on my F30, but since I've gone 19' on the new F32, not taking chances. Plus, running Michelin tires are hard to top.
