This sounds like a very good guess.

These fenders remind me of Jeep Wrangler with black plastic fenders (to cover wide tires).

Looks like someone bolted on bigger fenders and changed the tails... Curious to see what BMW does with it!

Hopefully that will allow everyone to run much fatter tires

has anyone noticed that the tail of the chassis is a little longer than E90? Maybe the production model will be about 100mm longer than E90 too.

Terrible looking. Odd proportions and with the back end taped like it is and only partial taillights showing it looks like last generation Jetta.
If that's truly the next 3 series, I'm glad I have an e92 as I won't be getting the next version.

And for the love of God, when will car makers STOP making each new model BIGGER.
We don't need a BIGGER 3 series, that's the what 5 series is for.
We need a redesigned 3 series that's 50-75 lbs lighter (hint, use more aluminum).

I don't know if bigger is better. I bought my 3 series over the 5 because I felt the 5 was too big.

And the reason for the ugly body and pre-LCI parts is because (as mentioned before many times) they're testing the chasis. They just grabbed body parts from a bin of parts and it probably had a lot of pre-LCI parts sing they were left over from production. I suppose they could have driven it around without body panels too.

I certainly hope so. Those wheel flairs make the car look like the hens in the movie Chicken Run.

I'm surprised at how many people just don't get it. The reason it looks hideous is because this F30 test mule has a wider stance and longer wheelbase. It doesn't fit the existing E90 body, hence the makeshift wheel flares. Slap the undersides of an E90 on an E46 and the E46 would look funny too. It's purported to be the F30 with E90 body panels and facade, so it looks a little like an E90. Duh.

I guess not everyone reads the posts. Watch the next one say, "I hope the next 3 series doesn't look like that."

anyone making comments about the way this LOOKS ... AND being serious ... is a damn FAKING RETARD. Look up what a test mule means you idiots before you comment on how body panels supposed to be and wotnot. For faks sake, they tested X1 chassis wrapped in mail delivery van body. test mule.

Not everyone has a functioning brain though... as 'awesome race kill' threads confirm everynow and then.
