I have chemical guys wheel guard on my wheels. It doesn't help prevent the brake dust but it helps some of it rinse off. IMHO wheel cleaners in general are un-necessary. I just use some Meguair's Gold with grit guard and clean the wheels with a MF brush. I find Mg Gold to be strong enough to clean the wheels as a result I only use that stuff on wheels. I do however, wash the car once a week.

Kind of off topic here, but is anyone else having the problem of brake dust getting on the paint of their car? I have black powder on the front doors and rear bumper of my car, right next to the wheels. I don't even brake that hard!

It's also odd how only the 3/4 series has bad brake dust. My mom has the 640i GC and my dad has a 535i and they both have minimal to almost no brake dust. They can go for months without cleaning their rims. Weird

Do you use tire shine? It could be that slinging onto the paint

This is week #2 of ownership of my 435i with M brakes and wheels and the dust is not only on the rims but on the underside of the M sport side sill, the white car is probably not helping. This is my 3rd BMW and I have never seen anything like this. My wife drives a White 528i and nothing like this. I wonder if once the brakes settle in that the dust will lessen.

I have 4K on my car and the brake dust hasn't gotten any better. I usually wash my wheels every 2 - 3 days depending how much driving I do. After only a couple of days, they sometimes resemble gunmetal wheels.

I know it's not what people want to hear, but if you have the m sport brakes just swap your pads. I did porterfield r4s and couldn't be happier. The dust is reduced drastically and stopping power is more linear. It was the easiest pad install I have ever done too. Check the suspension forum for the aftermarket pad thread for more details.

it would not be a bad idea to protect the rims with a wax or even better a coating.

some suggestions
Auto Finesse Mint Rims
Sonax Polymer Net Shield
Opti Coat
Anyone have any additional wheel brush recommendations?

A great cost effective product is Meguairs APC D101. Dilute 3:1 and use to clean wheels. Safe and effective. Plus you can get a gallon of this stuff, and after the dilution will last for many wheel washes.

Then apply a good sealant of your choice (Opti-seal, etc). Makes cleaning dust a lot less painful. Quick spray, wash then rinse..

I have a set of winter and summer wheels. So part of my routine is to prep each set of wheels prior to each season.

I use Chemical Guys Jet Seal on the Body of my Car with great results!! so I also put it on the Rims, and now the Brake dust Does not Accumulate much at all, and seems to slide off!

I am also sure you could use a good wax on them as well with even better results!

BMW decided to revert back to the Euro brake pads for the MSport and MSport brake cars. These pads are very dusty. Anyone who has owned BMWs for years is familiar with this problem.

I believe in MY10 BMW first switched to low dust pads for NA 3 series. Most other series use low dust pads too, except the sporty models, such as M cars...
