180 can definitely do it, although it may be a little pricy

so, im a bit new to the whole concept... in order for these cams to record full time, do they have to be wired directly into the fusebox, or does the cigarette socket suffice? dont our cars provide aux juice even when the engine is off, or is that just to the USB port in the armrest?

the blackvue is definitely a premium product at a premium price. looking at something a bit less pricey (yes, i know, cheap camera protecting a 50K car), the KDLinks X1 seems to have very favorable reviews. wondering if the form factor would allow it to be somehow tucked behind the NBT screen rather than attach to the mirror area. would this even make sense? this way, i could personally live with a short cable run to the cig lighter rather than hardwire.

i just wire them to the usb socket under glove box for front cam. rear cam is routed to the trunk power socket. wires are hide in the A & C pillar.

if you need the cam to record parking footage aka parking mode you will need to wire to the fuse

We've just received these at work a few months ago. So far everyone has good things to say about them. You can install yourself.

which one did you get? it's easy to install, probably 30 minutes tops. 29 of those minutes will be trying to tuck/hide the wires in the roof liner, then you just connect the power wires to the fuse box in the trunk

This. I was thinking of getting the remote hideaway front license plate from them. They gave me a price of $400 installed which to me is a ripoff.

that is also a 30 minute install, the hard part would be trimming the grill to mount the plate, after that, you just connect one wire to the battery and the other to the ground. I installed both the hideaway plate and dashcam myself without a problem.

Yeah its a joke I've heard they do it in 10 minutes, and charge you a few hundred bucks in labor.

Checkout the video below. It doesn't seem too difficult. Unless you can find someone you know can do it, you'll be better off trying to do it yourself. You might be able to find some other videos as well on youtube. Good luck

start by mounting the front camera to the windshield. there will be two wires, one for the rear camera and one for the power, start by tucking them into the rearview camera base, then up into the headliner, across the windshield, around the doors and eventually to the back seat. Run the power into the trunk, and the other wire to the back windshield to mount the other camera. connect the power plug to the power magic pro, connect the power magic pro to the fuse box under the trunk floor. I think I used fuse 162 for power, forgot the fuse for negative, and I grounded everything to a bolt. I'll try to take a picture of it, but like I said, the wiring connections are the easy part, tucking the wires actually takes longer.

wiring + installing the blackvue is insanely easy. I was afraid to DIY myself but once i started tackling the project it turned out to be a lot easier than I anticipated.

Hardwired into the fuse box to radio + headlights. Works flawlessly and I love it
Prob 3/10 in terms of difficulty.

One Note though, It's not recommended to use the Power Magic Pro for the newer 3/4 series, look into getting a multisafer instead. $25 on Amazon

i'm very hesitant to do anything related to tapping the fuse box. would you share some pics/notes from your experience?

i park my car in the garage, so i dont know if i really need to hardwire it to be always on. nor do i know if i want to permanently mount it (dont want anyone breaking in).

if i get one, i may just have to discipline myself to plug it into the cig lighter each time i drive it
