Can you close sunroof and windows without comfort access from outside of car?

I just received my 2013 335xdrive a few hours ago and am playing around with the features and have a quick question. In my 2008 335xi I could close the sunroof and close the windows from outside the car by inserting the key in the door lock and turning the key left. I tried that in my 2013 335 xdrive and it did not work??? Is there any way of doing this if you don't have the comfort access option?

Ouch! BMW pulled that into CA? It's neat that I just gotta hold my finger on the ribbed portion of the door handle and it will lock and close everything, but never thought about trying with the key. Not sure if it matters with the key or not given I have CA. I remember in the E90 forum there was an aftermarket kit for closing everything with the fob (akin to it opening everything by holding the unlock buttom). BMW should have put the close into the lock-and-hold-the-button. I guess putting it into CA was a step forward, but odd they would yank it from the door key.

US spec bmw are somewhat limited in this matter, they dont like closey closey boom boom pam windows that can hurt innocent bystanders (lol)
In any bmw, press the lock button once then press it again and keep pressing it until the windows and sunroof close completely.

If nothing happens in that case then you can thank US regulations.

Closing windows and sunroof along with folding the mirrors is not enabled in US F30's. It can be enabled only via coding.

I was able to do it with my 2008 335xi but at least for now it doesn't seem to work on my 2013 335 xdrive (even pressing the lock button). Nice feature but not a huge deal if the 2013 model does not do it, I maybe used it 20 times over the 4 years I had my 2008 335xi. It is also perhaps something they can do in a future software update........

If you don't mind rolling up your sleeves, and the slight possibility of bricking your $60K car, you can do it yourself via coding.

It's not a US reg issue. My 06 Audi A4 had this ability programmed from the factory, many VW/Audi cars have this ability.
BMW, for whatever freaking reason, chooses to program it but not make it available in the US market.
I believe it is available if you code it.

Thanks for the information everyone!

Perhaps I will just wait and maybe the functionality will be included in a future BMW software update. Now that the weather is changing colder I don't think it will be an issue here for another 6 months anyways......

As for codeing not through the dealer, it is not a huge issue so I don't think I would risk screwing something else up by having someone else code it for me.

I coded mine to do this. Coding is really easy once you get the software, cable and a spare 30 minutes. All you're doing is essentially turning the feature from off to on. There's a great coding thread in the DIY section.

I just coded mine with major help from forum member Frogman. He had the program, home built cable and the experience to get it done. It was pretty easy once I got over my fear of effing up my new car. Like jsbmw87 already said, it's not so much "coding" as switching parameters from on to off or vise-versa.

Now, I can see my tire temp and individual tire pressures on the iDrive screen. I don't have the silly disclaimer screen on start up. I can close all the windows and sunroof with the fob, and I can fold my mirrors with CA by touching the door handle.

Thanks again Frogman!

Hey Alpine, did you know you can change the cluster splash screen from BMW to ///MPerformance? It also shows up in the HUD. Let me know if you are interested.

Actually, in my 2011 A4, Audi took out both remote window-down and window-up, but they can be brought back with coding.

BMW in the US seems to do down but not up.

Any time. Send me an e-mail if you want to do this as I'm no longer allowed to send or receive PM's here.

This is what the new splash screen looks like:
