F32 LCI Taillights Installed on ALPINA

Finally installed the F32 LCI taillights on my B4.

I believe you have already seen some similar reports posted in this forum, but let me also share my experience just for your reference.

< BMW PART NUMBER - EU VERSION >
63217426055 - Rear light in the side panel, left
63217426056 - Rear light in the side panel, right
63217426051 - Rear light in trunk lid, left
63217426052 - Rear light in trunk lid, right

< RETROFITTING >
The outer lights are literally plug ’n play. No need to swap the connector pins like F30/F31.
As for the inner lights, you need to use a retrofit harness to convert the connectors and to add extra signal lines for blinkers.

< HARNESS FOR INNER LIGHTS >
At first I was thinking about making a retrofit harness for myself, but I decided to use the harness from alpina-527 to save time. Anyway it worked flawlessly.

< INSTALLING THE HARNESS >
Route and secure the cable from left inner light to the existing harness, then pull the loom end into REM control unit near the battery in the trunk.

< CONNECTING TO REM >
Disconnect the connector A174*13B from REM and insert the terminal pins of new cables into the pin sockets as follows;

- Cable from the left light to PIN No.5
- Cable from the right light to PIN No.13

< RETROFIT CODING >
Next up is… coding!
I added HO-wort HELC (=LCI_REAR_LIGHT) and VO coded the REM to have it transmit indicator signal/power to inner blinkers over new retrofit cables.
I think this way is a lot sexier than tapping the power from outer blinkers.

Very easy, isn’t it? It just took about one hour to get everything done.

ENJOY THE VIDEO!

I never knew the license plate lights dimmed when the car was in reverse. It makes perfect sense, reduces the glare from them in the camera but that's a new one on me!

You noticed? Wow... you have eagle eyes.
This is an aftermarket license plate LED but it's only available in Japan AFAIK.

Another option is coding. Please try the method below I posted in another forum.

Bimmerfest - Licence plate light brightness when backing up

Cheers,

is the blinker different than a 3 series? yours seems to flow with the lines, while the 3 series is a fixed angle.

Yes, the 4er has a different shape. The 3er's blinker draws a straight line.

Sorry this is probably a dumb question, but which is pin #5 and #13? I'm not familiar with the numbering convention on these connectors. Thanks.

No worries.
You can figure out the numbering when you disassemble the connector.

The pins are numbered on the connector. When you take the cover off you can see next to each pin

Funny, coming from the UK I like the red! Was disappointed my first couple cars here had orange, guess it is the novelty factor!
