Kerb Damage

So long story short I was driving in the sun and my arm was burning up so I asked my wife for some sun cream, I didn’t expect her to drag my arm which was on the steering wheel, unfortunately it meant I turned into the kerb and the dreaded crunch came next

I’ve now got kerb damage around half of the rim. I’ve had a search in the local area for wheel repair. Lots of options but I’m looking for any specific advice on what to look for/what not to do to get it fixed, it looks a mess so don’t want to run with it like this.

Wheels are 19’ m double spoke 704m bi colour orbit grey

Many thanks

Heard stories of people selling the kerbed wheel and buying a brand new one for less than the cost of a refurb! RustyBitz you mentioned you did this, right? Any insight for OP?

Set of four new almost £2.5K...

http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw...04m_wheel_5491

...so around £650 for one.

BTW... I badly kerbed a diamond-cut wheel on my previous 1-Series. My local BMW dealer fitted a new, fully inclusive of tyre change-over, for approx the same as buying supply-only from the web.

If it's diamond cut I'd go - sell old and buy new as regardless of what they say it'll never be as good and usually quite quickly develop the white worm and the repair isn't usually covered by any warranty on diamond cut ones as there's no way to get the lacquer to adhere properly after the refurb process.

Yep, that's what I did, I ended up just replacing the wheel, got a brand new one for £250. Will get the damaged one re-cut at my leisure then sell it on to recoup some of the cost of the replacement wheel.

Are diamond cut wheels really worth it? We are 10 or 12 weeks into our new car and every time I get in it, the wheels cross my mind. I would happily be without them!

My experience was slightly different in that I had a refurb after kerbing a 442 alloy and was very happy with the result. This was done in April 2017, and all is well with it.

I went to BMW in Wolverhampton and they out sourced the refurb to JP Alloys, Cannock. BMW charged me £150. I could have got it done for just under £100 if I had gone direct, but BMW stored my car whilst it was done and provided a courtesy car.

Yeah, I’m much happier now the 6 has regular painted alloys. The diamond cut ones on the 4 were meticulously cleaned, never kerbed, yet still started corroding from the inside out.

Shit, IMO.

I kerbed 2 of my diamond cut alloys recently. I bought alloy wheel & tyre insurance from the dealer so it was sorted out and i cant tell they have been repaired. They did a really good job. Car was away for 5 days getting the wheels repaired!

Buy a new Rim. Check eBay - always lots of good deals and you'll be able to bargain hard if it's a popular wheel type.

I paid £100 for a 403 diamond cut to be refurbished. Fusionwheels in Kent did the work. They work for loads of premium brands in the SE incl BMW. The repair lasted just fine. I sold the car a year later and the wheel still looked perfect
