No audible beep when locking in the f30?
Can't find it in the menus...does the 3 series not have the option for the audible chirp/beep when locking/unlocking?
I know, I know...

You only get that if your car has the factory alarm installed. It's an option on 328s, standard on 335.

Confirmation signals from the vehicle
1. "Settings" 2. "Door locks" 3. Deactivate or activate the desired confirmation signals. ▷ "Acoustic sig. lock/unlock" ▷ "Flash when lock/unlock" |

Do you really need the alarm? No chance the premium package has this covered? I'd really like a beep.

None of my four new BMWs I've owned since 2006 have beeped when the car was locked and I'm sure they all had Thatcham 1 alarms fitted as standard, which armed themselves whenever the car was locked. My current 118D Coupe definitely has an alarm, and the UK website says that the F30 has a Thatcham 1 alarm as standard. I find it pretty amazing that BMW sell cars in the US without an alarm fitted as standard! And even if that's the case it doesn't explain why none of my cars have ever beeped on locking, unless that too is a difference in country-specific specification. I had to add the option to my 328 for $400.00. Didn't even realize I needed it in order for it to make the confirmation beep... just wanted it for that extra button on the key fob haha.

Sorry for the ignorance, but does this mean that my car won't even have a panic? or it won't sound an alarm when the doors are opened when the car is locked??

If you didn't order the alarm on the 328, there will be no audible signals on the outside of the car. Same situation with the E9x. No alarm, no panic, no beep/chirp/quack/bark/moo.

In that case it's doubly strange. No alarm as standard in the US is downright bizarre IMO. And no beep on lock in Europe also seems odd. But then again, hardly any cars in Europe seem to beep when locked so maybe there's some sort of sound pollution law against it. Still, I'd like some sort of audible confirmation as I'm often unsure whether I've definitely locked the car. |

So far as I'm aware, in the UK, we never get the lock/unlock 'chirp' with factory fitted alarms from any manufacturers. I am sure there are exceptions but I actually thought it must be a regulatory thing! I visit the US regularly and always notice the difference when my rental chirps at me!
Personally I like the chirp. Firstly it helps reassure me that the car is locked and it helps to locate your car in a large car park (rare but helpful nonetheless). It would be good if this could be activated via iDrive or the dealer. Last edited by PrinceBarin; 04-23-2012 at 09:53 AM.. |

You still have to activate the chirp via the i-Drive even if you have the alarm. So if you've never looked for the setting or stumbled upon it, that's not surprising.

It seems people don't have that option if they don't have the alarm
