I'm not clear about whether my car will come with summer or all season tires. I'd prefer summer since I'm getting a dedicated set for winter. Is this something I can influence? I live in Chicago and picking up my car Euro delivery.

The BMW website says the SportLine comes with performance tires.

When will you be picking up your car in Munich and more specifically will it be MY2012 or MY2013? For MY2012, sport line vehicles come standard with summer/performance tires. For MY2013, it looks like you can specify if you would like performance tires or all-season.

There are plenty of people on here with Sportline that got all season. I don't think summer or performance is guaranteed at all unless you get 19" rims.

I'm praying for summer as I also plan to have dedicated winters.

One data point: I picked up my car (335i Sport) on 11-May and got 18" Conti summer tires

That's great news!

Anyone else get summer tires on 18" sport rims? Most photos I've seen have the Pirelli P7 which is an all season tire (although there is a P7 version but I'm pretty sure the photos show the all season on sport rims).

Yes. Performance tires are good as long as it's not too cold, and most importantly, NO ice and snow.

Yes, I got P7 summers, and I'm in NY. Standard 18" sportline wheels.

I also got P7 summers, picked up on ED last month. The P7 has a summer Y version and an all season X version.

This is all excellent news. I didn't realize but it looks like everyone with sport line got summer tires. I thought the p7 was an all season. My mistake.

Not sure with 2012, but the 2013 spec info shows that you have an option for summer only or all seasons with sport line.
Not sure about the other lines though.

I'm in the Chicago area as well. I think I'll go summer tires.
But, if the all seasons are of a high performance type, I may opt for those, as I run all season year round.

But, even if they are high perf all seasons, they will be RFT's.
My experience with RFT's in my 135i showed me that I do NOT like RFT's and what it does to the ride. When I switched to Conti DWS high po all seasons, the ride improved, as well as suspension compliance.
I've had the Cont's on my 135i since the first fall in 09.

Great tire. Overall handling is great. Ride is better and tire noise about the same. The OEM RFT's were actually pretty quite.
Overall grip is about the same as the summer RFT's.
The only negative difference is that there was a slight loss in initial turn in response as the Conti DWS have a slightly softer sidewall compared to the RFT's. In tireracks high po all season tests, the DWS has the most loss in initial turn in response.
The wet road traction with the DWS is excellent, a good bit better than the OEM summer Potenzas.

I'm doing the same with the new 3.
I also went a size wider when I switched to the Conti's.
I'm ordering an Msport, which has wider rears 255, and I'm going to try to fit 235 or 245 in front, and 265 in the rear. I really like the look of wider tires on BMW's.

I've been running Michelin Pilot Sports on my Mazda 3 for years here in San Francisco and never had a problem. So as mentioned, you'd be fine
