Tint Vertical Scratches?

Hi all,

I just picked up my first 2015 BMW 328i a couple days ago. I got it tinted soon after with Llumar ceramic tint. I have heard on the older E's that the window track was pretty tight and would tend to scratch the tint. Do the F's have this issue?

I tried to research before posting it but I was getting different results.

Thanks in advanced,

David

It seems like the F series cars don't do this, but I'd wait for other opinions.

Thanks for your input! I just don't want to ruin my HO Ceramic tint just yet. I will keep the windows up for now haha.

I emailed Tint Protector (manufacturer that sells Moleskin) and they mentioned that the 2015's already come with felt channels. I guess I have to believe them since they were honest and didn't sell me their products. I attached a screenshot below.

Do you know if it applies for my 2013 sedan also?

The kits on tintprotector.com states that they sell the kits for 2009-2013 BMW. Since it says that, I believe you would need it.

That may be because the e92/3 was up until 2013

Thanks for your response! I'm trying to avoid ever having to redo my tint so I am going to install this moleskin tomorrow.

Do it. I got 1 vertical scratch on my front passenger side. Super annoying when you know its there. Makes me want to redo but nobody ever notices, so it may stay for now. Happened about 6 months after tint was done.

I had this issue on my e90. I just picked up an F30 that I will be getting tinted this week. I bought some moleskin just in case.

My 2013 F30 doesn't have felt or moleskin on the window liners. Never had scratches on the tint and I raise/lower the windows frequently.

I just got the 3M colors table tiny installed Friday so I'm nervous about rolling down my windows tomorrow. Several have said no issues while 1 F30 owner did get scratches. So nervous.

Wait a couple more days just to be sure. Although I'm sure the weather in Florida has already dried the tint. Did you ever install that moleskin?

I did not install it yet. I think I wanted to know first before I disassembled anything. I've had the tints for 3 days now with windows up and down with no issues so far. I got the 3M Colorstable tints. I'll keep my eyes on it and probably make sure to wipe the door opening to make sure no dust gets collected.

F3x cars do not need aftermarket felt. That said, if you get debris between the felt and glass (i.e. beach sand) you certainly can scratch tint. This applies to any car.

Yes. Any e9x will have this issue. You can easily add moleskin to the e9x though. Just pry back the top portion of the door panel to unclip it. The rubber weather seal can lift out. Either cut the second lower hard rubber blade or apply moleskin to it. It's a simple job
