We've all been there over the years, some people here no doubt in the pre-internet days, and others on forums of cars not costing $50k+.
That's a lot clearer message...people who get an F30 for their first car are in a totally different category from "enthusiasts" - unless they're from New York, where you generally don't buy a car until you move out of the City. But I know what you're saying...if you haven't broken skin wrenching under the hood or rebuilt a carb (no, not something you eat) or changed your own spark plugs, it's difficult for those of us who have to refer to them as "enthusiasts".

Mullets were only required on the 1976 models.

I was 16 in 1998 and got my moms 90 accord. It had 16 chrome fitipaldis, sitting on bags in the rear(powered by c02) and an h22a swap. Most of the work was done by me brings back good memories. Oh yeah I also got my license suspended with that car for 1 year for street racing!

My first new car paid by myself was a n 2003 350z

This got me to thinking, and I went and got my original bill of sale for my '68 Chevelle. $2690.00 new! Damn, that wouldn't even pay for the wheels and tires on my ordered 335i!

My first car was a 1966 Chevelle that I bought when I was 15 , but when I was 21 I bought a left over 1996 Trans Am . Black with black leather. I endured the jokes( mullet , gold chains) and always found the need to defend the car. It seems funny now but at the time, stock 275HP wasn't too shabby.Good V8 Torque ,looked mean in black and with the added full Bolra exhaust system, the sound it made would give me goose bumps. Its good to know someone out their made the same transition as me. You can cut your mullet off , but somewhere deep down inside, its always with you.

Mercedes Benz 220 SE in 1966. I was 18. OP: your parents were probably not born then either.

My second car was a 1965 Buick LeSabre convertible that I bought for $2500 in 1967. What a ride that one was...seemed like it was 20 ft. long, but then gas was 36 cents a gallon and you could fill the tank for $7.00.
