Chipping?

Anyone thought of chipping their F30? It's seems quite easily done and the results seems impressive.

Just wondering if anyone has any information of had it done before?

Mine was quite easily done.. Not that impressed with the results though.. Nasty stone chips, right along the front edge of the bonnet too..

I had my 520d mSport Touring done (now getting a 330d MSport) and because of the AT8 box fitted the results were poor due to the box was receiving conflicting input signals.

Will chip tuning void the BMW warranty? Or will the tuning be done in a way that they won't be able to find out??

If you dont want the risk of voiding the warranty BMW normally offer a performance pack. I have seen one on the SMW site for the 320d....uprated airfilter (i think), intercooler and re-map. It did not state the power gains but would expect something in the region of 30bhp and a fair slug of extra torque.

I've heard DMS are considered one of the best in the UK at BMW remapping if your looking for a third party

Too scared about warranty and to be honest, if mine was any faster i would most certainly loose my licence as it's far too tempting to just put your foot down

I understand that chipping your car nearly always voids the warranty, though some chippers say the dealer won't be able to 'find' their work

Are you talking about a remap or fitting one of the crude tuning boxes?

Not many companies seem to offer remaps for the latest BMW diesel's which is a shame as I had great results with the 335D.

I tried one of the more expensive tuning boxes on the Mercedes 350CDi, but it kept sending it into limp mode. Other people seem to have had more success.

I recall someone told me the engines in the BMW F series cars are very difficult to remap due to impenetrable software security . I spoke to a few coding firms about a remap on my 2010 F11 520D and they couldn't do it.

Warranty will be void. Not worth it. And for those who's car is on a lease this is definitely not recommended as the driver is not the legal owner of the car.
