F30 2013 335I Crank Bearing failure!!!!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi everyone let me start off by saying this post is to inform/warn existing and or potential F30 owners about their N55's. I own an e92 m3 and not a F30 but I thought many would want to know...

I was at my local dealer having the oil on my gf x3 i35 changed and I see the bottom half of a N55 removed....

I asked the tech and he explained the customer had been complaining about a clicking sound only when the engine was hot and up to temp.

After 30+ hours of trouble shooting it was determined that the crank and main rod bearings were failing and needed to be replaced. Puma case was opened and work began.

I was surprised to see the amount of wear on the shells, car has 13,000kms.

Anyways if anyone has questions or a click sound coming from their engine might want to have it looked at!!

Thanks
Alex

Sounds like defective bearings. Happens with you build a million of something.

Yeah, actually I am pretty bored here at work.

Umm.. I have an N20 but this seems to be very similar, if not exact, problem I've been experiencing... At around 5000km, I noticed that the car clicks when the engine is warm (~90 degrees C). I've complained about this issue numerous times to the dealer and ranted on the forums (maybe a little too much lol), but now I've decided to live with it.

I am at 11500km now. We'll see what happens. Wait. What WOULD happen if the crank and the main rod bearings failed on me ON the road?

Was the car on lift #5 the one you referred to have the "Crank Bearing failure"?

It didn't look a 13' F30 335i to me - side mark on front fender? Not on my 13' F30

OP is in Canada. That is the Sport line badge. All cars in the US get the line designation delete so we don't have that badge here (thank goodness).

+1

Even 6 sigma quality level is 3 defects per million parts, and not many reach that level

There's a 4 yr 50K warranty. Sucks for the OP for his wasted time and hassle, but BMW will fix it on their dime.
