Wife's lease is up in a few weeks and I came across an incredible deal on a 328i xDrive GT. Everything moved very quickly, I saw a similar car on the showroom yesterday on my lunch break, no test drive, deal sealed today and delivered 5pm! Sweet car, incredibly roomy back seat and great hatch/trunk. Like I said, I'm totally new to this car but was blown away by how it compared, especially space-wise to our long running favorite, the X3. Walked out of the showroom with my mind made up.
My DD is a 2015 528i MSport. Pics to follow. |

I'm pretty sure my next car is going to be the GT to replace our 2000 540iT. I have had several 328GT loaners and its fits my bill perfectly, except for one area. While the 4-cylinder makes the power with no problem, I find it a bit harsh. It does not idle smoothly, plus sounds like, well, a 4-cylinder (Honda). My 335D idles smoother than the 328. As I was going to wait until the spring (get past winter), I figure might as well just wait a few more months and get the 2017 340GT.
Either engine is terrific, I think I'm just more sensitive than most after being spoiled from 2 decades of driving BMW 6 or 8-cylinder cars. |

I am amazed at how practical this vehicle is, especially in terms of rear seat space. Below is a view of the rear leg room behind the driver (my preset, assume same driving possible in both cars); 2013 Acura MDX on the left, and the GT that replaced it on the right. That is a staggering amount of additional leg space for what appears to be a much smaller car from the exterior.

That's the exact same car I just leased except the exterior is Glacier Silver.

It's the wheelbase, 108" for the Acura versus 115" for the GT. The BMW has far less overhang on the front end, which translates into more interior room. It also puts more weight behind the front axle, which gives almost a 50-50 front/rear weight distribution, for better ride and handling. The Acura is 8 inches higher, but at almost half that could be done away with. It's not really bigger, it's just bulkier. The BMW is a far more efficient design, in every aspect.
