Coding where hardware exists

I have done a search so if it is purely bad searching, I apologise..

I have the high beam assist in my new 330d M Sport LCI. As the camera and therefore all the hardware must be in place, including the dashboard display, is it possible to code the feature that sees speed signs and displays them?

I accepted a cancelled order car that was just about my spec' but a couple of features I would have ticked are not there, and this is one of them. (Got a cracking deal in return though.)

Just a thought...

No. You need the KAFAS2 camera (which comes with adaptive lights) but crucially an FSC code which is not available outside of the dealer network.

no. you cannot code speed limit display (SLD) -
you need a different hardware i.e camera (KAFKAS) than comes with it High beam assist (HBA). In addition, SLD requires a FSC code from BMW to activate it - which is not available.

Out of curiosity though, it seems a bit weird having a different camera for High Beam Assist to adaptive? I have a camera but not the right one?

If it is the same camera, I would have thought that makes SLD a dealer upgrade?

Don't worry about it as I have it and find it pretty useless. It is really meant for use with HUD, so if you don't have HUD, then you are not missing anything

No - the camera for high beam assist just dips main beam if light is detected. The adaptive camera also considers direction and colour such that the main beam can be adaptively configured to get the dancing lights effect.

Having said all that I was also told that the same camera is used in both configurations on later models.

Yeah, the lower spec camera is black and white and is used for both auto high beams and adaptive headlights. KAFAS cameras are only present with certain safety features and SLD.

Interesting. I had a bit of a dig about when I read this. Is it correct that LDW coding will only work if you have the actuator /motor to vibrate the steering wheel? It seemed so from what I read but I couldn't tell if there was any other visual warning which might work without having the vibrating wheel.

I believe there is a visual warning like below pic, but yes to get full use of it you would need to add the steering wheel vibrator (ohh err), unless you already have it for lane change warning.

Thanks Teaston. I'm waiting on new motor and not tried coding with current. Tempted to give it a go on the new one so will report back if I do.
