Question 1 & 3 Series - Adaptive Lights Question...?

Hi guys.

We recently purchased a 1 series with adaptive lights but they don't do the 'dancing' bit like they do on my 3 series??? They only do the HBA function.
I've driven it on the same roads as my 3 and in the same conditions but nothing happens other than the odd HBA moment.
When I manually flick my high beams on in my 3 series I can see the lights moving before they hit full beam. In the 1 series this doesn't happen at all.

The obvious move is to take it into BMW but my work schedule is preventing me from taking it in at the moment.
I'm just finding out if anyone else has come across the same thing in their cars and whether the 1 series lights are actually different???

TIA

Does the 1 series have the button on the left hand stalk as with the 3 series?

The one that gives you the green A on dash?

1 series lights only do the auto high beam I'm afraid & the beam does move about, speed dependent but doesn't do the fancy Dan split of the 3 series.

2 series does & maybe the 1 series LCI might but the current one doesn't.

TBF that might not really answer is as my older X5 had the same half button on the stalk and it was just HBA rather than adaptive lighting. I wonder if its just a lesser feature on the 1series?

Yes it was the same situation with the pre-lci 5 Series. You only got high beam assist and the lights moving with the speed/direction of the car. Only the 3 series did the dance. Suspect the 1 LCI will do this as the 5 did (I think from memory).

All that tells you it that it has HBA. Doesn't not necessarily mean it has the dancing lights.
My old E90 had the button and A on dash but did not have dancing lights like the F3x.

Best thing to do is ask on a 1 series forum to confirm how it supposed to work.
When I first got my f30 the HBA did not work like it should, it just switched on or off like the E90 did. Then after a week for some unknown reason the dancing lights started to work as they should, strange.

Just got back in from the 'dancing lights show' on the way back from Basingstoke, absolutely fabulous. I can't get over the 'black box' it creates when needed. You would have thought the later 1 series would have the spec of 524 Adaptive headlights and 5AC High-beam assistant.

Thanks for your replies everyone.
Our 1 series does show the 524 and 5AC on the build sheet under the Visibility Pack. If they don't 'dance' then I'm not sure what Adaptive actually means then???
Might need to call our dealership and see...

Yes to the above. The lights do turn but they don't split like on my 3 series. I'm starting to think that they don't do the same on our 1 series

The splitting as we see in the three series is not there and as mentioned above it does only the high beam assist when switched on the indicator stalk. It won't do like the LED light you tube video.

A colleague of mine had the problem of the lights not turning some sensor went off and had to change the first check they asked to do was what I typed in the earlier post

My LCI E90 had Vis Pack. HBA worked in the same way as the F30 however the headlights apaptiveness meant they just bended round corners. If you park in front of a garage or wall and turn the steering wheel, you should see the beams moving in relation to the steering.

The F2x doesn't have the same "cars in a box" features as the 3 series upwards.

Bmw ski,

Pre LCI 1 series with adaptive and HBA is low rent version, compared to the 2 and 3 series equivalent.

I've wandered abt the same and whether I could enhance adaptive HBA xenons on my m135i with 2 series coding to get smarter adaptive to work on a 1 series.....

My brother was going to spec the LED's on his M5 to get this feature... as it wasn't on his 125d he figured it didn't feature on the xenons. Was highly surprised to see it on my 335d with vis pack. I think he ended up going LED anyway because he's a ponce.

I think it's awesome but it does piss a few folks off. I've had a few full beam me when i pass them after some time following, despite the system working very well i just think they assume you are following them with beams on when they see the world around them light up. They're always driving shit boxes with candles too.
