Retrofit ambient lighting

Hello,

I have a 420i GC. Is it possible to install ambient lighting on it? I seem to have the option on iDrive but it does nothing. The trim pieces also seem to have an insert where the LEDs would go.

What color is your interior? If black, you won't see it much in the doors as the black just absorbs the light.

It is indeed black with a black roofline. However I did see it on a friend's 440i which also has the same interior and it looked really great. Makes the car look a lot more premium (and expensive)

Have you tried decoupling the ambient light brightness from gauge cluster via coding?
