What are you using to register batteries?

Today I bought a new OEM spec battery (AGM 90ah) for 2016 M235 but my damn Foxwell NT301 scanner won't register the thing. After a bunch of research, it turns out the Foxwells can't register batteries in newer 2009+ BMWs. I'm not looking for something computer based but rather something phone/dongle based. I don't need to code anything. Thanks.

Perhaps your old Foxwell NT301 but my Foxwell NT530 has no issues registering new batteries.

Bimmerlink should do the trick!

I used Bimmerlink (using the ENET cable to the phone). Bit of a catch22 though, Google Pixel doesn't allow you to set a static IP, so I had to snag a Samsung phone from work to do the registration.

Foxwell NT510. I bought it shortly after buying my car, knowing that I'd need a scanner sooner or later, and that I would need one that would do battery registration. It paid for itself the first time I used it to clear codes caused by an ABS sensor glitch.

If you want a similar mechanics tool type item, this OBD dongle from autel is pretty good. More capable than bimmerlink. I haven’t used it for battery, but know it does it. Did use it to read and register fuel injector compensation and worked great.

Thanks. Which year BMW did you register the battery? I do have a NT530 for my Porsche Cayman but only currently has Porsche software on it. BMW software would be another $80 but I want to make sure it actually can work on a later year F series, say 2014+.

It sure was. Started to gaslight myself since I knew I connected my phone to my car, but it was my old Samsung S9 that I sold for the Pixel.

Thank you all. I downloaded Bimmerlink, spent the $40 to get the full app, and registered the battery in 15 seconds.
