It's not much of a review just a data dump IMO, they should be reviewing it in a couple of weeks

340i 6MT doesn't even have any competition right now. Jaguar XE V6 when/if it arrives with a manual. Closest available right now would be the Chevy SS, and that's more of a 540i rival than a 340i rival. ATS-V competes with the M3, not the 340i.

If someone wants a street-focused 300+ HP RWD sedan with a manual, they are probably going to buy the 340i regardless of what Motor Trend thinks of it.

The acceleration being slower than the 2012 comes down to the driver and clutch work not the car. Lol the fact they claim that it's slower 0-60 without acknowledging variables is almost as much of a joke as the 2007 motor trend COTY

I think his review and opinions on BMW in general are pretty much locked in. I summarized below
  • the former benchmark is no longer out front.
  • clueless marketers
  • BMW missed a chance to fix even the most egregious quality issues, such as the ill-fitting radio memory buttons
  • the car still felt numb and disconnected.

Yeah I agree completely with you. Funny thing about the radio buttons though...from the drivers seat they look slightly misaligned but in actuality when you look straight on you can tell they're perfectly alligned

did it have snow tires or all season tires? BMW is dumb enough to send review cars with all seasons.

These are the same jokers making a big deal about "save the manual transmission". So dedicated to that cause that last year they tested the Honda Accord V6 Coupe - one of the very few cars available with a manual.
Of course, they tested their Honda with…the automatic. The reason? Right there in the text - "it's how most of them are bought". Now that's dedication to a cause.
Really, between the annual COTY "contest" that's an excuse for fundraising and their devotion to their "cause", who would ever pay the least bit of attention to this, um, uh, "enthusiast magazine"?

I thought it was C&D that had the save the manual campaign. Maybe MT did it too.

You're quite wrong, Car and Driver does "save the manuals"

Carlos Lago was the ONLY Motor Trend writer/reviewer that didn't dislike BMW and now he's gone.

Meanwhile, Road and Track and Car and Driver had very positive first drive reviews of the 340i.

Yes, you are correct and I was mistaken. I conflated the Motor Trend COTY stuff with the C&D manual hypocrisy.

Apologies.
