Hi,

New poster here, been looking through various threads and have a question on cruise control features?

Does the standard cruise control have a speed limiter as well ie do not exceed 50mph, or is this part of the Active Cruise Control with Stop/Go (which I am undecided about)?

Standard Cruise Control just comes with braking, which will slow you on descents etc to keep you at the target speed. I have the Advanced, but I don't have my car yet

Is that what you mean by 'do not exceed 50 mph'?

Was thinking of something when in an average speed check area ie go whatever speed you like but you can't go faster than the max limit you set.

Hi both types will allow you to set a maximum speed that it will not allow the vehicle to exceed the basic cruise control will ignore other vehicles on the road and would rely on driver input to slow the car down if there is a slower vehicle in front. With active cruise control it will use radar to lock onto the vehicle in front and will match its speed whilst controlling the distance between the vehicles. If you pull out to overtake it will accelerate but only to the max speed that you set.

With other vehicles on the road both types will behave exactly the same.
I have adaptive on my X6 and have had no hesitation to spec again for my 335d. Active cruise control is in my opinion what cruise control should to to be functional on uk roads with twists and turns and other traffic. :-)

sahajesh, no the F3x cars do not come with the speed limiter, just plain cruise control. You can have the speed limiter function coded to work though.

Adaptive CC is a great option.

The speed limiter is simple to code and is a great addition for average speed checks in roadworks when it's too busy to use the cruise control.

I don't understand this speed limiter thing. Are you saying that you can set it to, say 100km/h (our freeway max limit) and, even if you put your foot flat down, it will stop at 100 km/h?

Why wouldn't you just use the speed alert function? That way, you get an alert when you exceed the set (easily adjusted) speed but can exceed if circumstances require it.

Speed limiter is another way to do it although I find the repeated chiming you get every time you slightly exceed the limit doses get annoying after a while (especially when you have passengers - they start to think something's wrong with the car). Remember you can still exceed the limit set on active cruise if you want to - just put the foot down and hit resume afterwards to setting into cruise mode again

Yes that's correct, basically you set your speed and it won't go above that unless you change the settings. Speed alert function is another option as far as I'm aware, I hoping someone will figure out how to code it soon

Thanks to all for the info - will read up a bit more on ACC Stop/Go too. Is Speed Alert a factory option (and if so, part of which pack/feature) or coding only?
