Navigation of 435i GC Reliable?

Has anyone experienced their Navigation taking weird longer routes? One day it took me out of the highway to go local, to then go back into the highway. I've been using my phones navigation lately since its more reliable. Anyone experience this issue?

Have you checked exactly what type of route you're set to take?
I think there's a choice between: "Fastest", "Shortest", "Eco pro"

It's reliable, its just that sometimes it doesn't understand the roads the same way a local would, it's just looking for the quickest way mileage wise. For example, there are two highways near me that run parallel for a short while and then split out, sometimes when it wants to take me out west it will have me go on one, only to get off and get on the other a few miles later.

I have also found that hitting prefer expressways has helped me avoid it giving me routes where it would take me on local main roads when I would rather just take the highway to avoid traffic.

Play with your settings. The navi works great.

Where I live (NM), it always takes longer and weirder routes than Google Maps. Hence, I just use my phone. Doesn't matter whether you set it to fastest, shortest, etc....still manages to find the strangest route. There are a few threads on this topic and others have had the same issue. I think there's a 2015-2 nav update that includes some algorithm changes, but I'm not sure if it has rectified the problem. I'll upgrade only when BMW manages to get this simple thing right.

Weird, here, it seems to work just great.
Even get route updates when there's an accident or some works...

I've tried changing the settings from Eco Pro - Fastest - etc... Still didnt make a difference. Maybe the navi upgrade is the answer here...

Ive been burned by the navi more than once myself. I have stopped relying on the car navi and just use it mainly for looking at traffic flow. The bmw navi doesnt seem to take the fastest routes no matter how you set it up. sure looks pretty though

Do you have to pay to upgrade the Navy software? Even if on a lease?

Since you are in Europe, the difference might lie there. I do get route updates and accident notifications which is very nice, but it doesn't alleviate poor routing that many times adds anywhere from 30-60 min extra to my trip.

Yes, you can search the forum for people who are providing it from $50 to $75. That's much cheaper than what the dealership will charge you.

In the States I have found that I need to place more trust in the Navi than I give it credit for. I have several times went a route that I thought was more direct and quicker only to get burned with traffic or accidents. I stick with what she has to say from now on.
