This is crazy, I guarantee it will not fix it. I had new discs and pads fitted by BMW in November, they squeaked like crazy when warmed up for the next 2,000 miles than stopped as if by magic.

When I first got the car (see my previous posts) from new they did exactly the same, again after a couple of thousand miles they stopped squeaking.

I think the pads simply need to bed in and dealers/people aren't giving them long enough and simply change discs/pads then the cycle starts all over again.

If I were you I would decline their invite of new discs/pads and wait until you reach what seems to be the magic 2,000 mile mark on the discs/pads - this is assuming you're fairly hard on them which i am.

There is a relationship between squeal: performance: kindness to discs: dust: longevity.

BMW have provided some pretty awesome brakes for these cars, they score above average in all the above. They haven't cut corners either, they are fitted with anti vibration weights...but alas, they are not perfect. And perfect doesn't exist either by the way. We would have those pads fitted if they did exist.

Embrace the squeal

the 4 pot brakes are dog shite!!! dunno what your on about Nisfan but they fade at the thought of using them. i swapped to DS2500 pads which kinda helped a little bit but there is just no feel compared to my old AP 4 pot calipers on my seat ibiza or the Brembo 6 pots on the Leon i had. not sure if the brake res that just weak?!?

alpinafan - ask for the replacement disc's and pads so 1 you know they were done but i bet they are fine to re-use

This one is related to the topic but not squeeling !

I would tell anyone to ignore the I drive when it comes to changing pads.... I have found my my F30 and F6 that they were out by a considerable margin of up to 6 k...

Brake fade on the road?

As you will know DS2500 is a racing pad, not road legal on a BMW F30.....a little unfair to be comparing a street pad to a racing pad. A DS2500 has to be at 300degC to reach optimum friction coefficient. Stock pads have to work from zero. And I bet DS squeal like a stuck pig?

Fact is, these 4 pots are that good, they use them on the M cars. And for absolute sure they are better than an E92 M3 brake system. Maybe not feel wise, but for outright stopping power they are awesome. For a £600 upgrade on a diesel rep mobile you honestly can't complain.

Having tracked these cars with stock pads, they hold out remarkably well....for a street pad. Yes they fade and give a long pedal (I blame BMW's implementation and lack of cooling on the rears), but they still stop pretty hard even at the end of a hard session.

Brakes turn inertia into heat/vibration energy. The audible noise range that comes from the pads and rotors is a function of vibrational characteristics amongst others. As we know, vibrational frequency changes with mass. Worn pads weigh less than new pads. The chamfer on the pads means as the pads wear, a bigger contact patch is presented to the rotor, making the pad more stable, but at the same time changing the harmonics. This as well as brake dust, rotor conditioning, moisture levels, rotational wear patterns, and the list goes on determines what speeds and frequencies are produced by the brakes.

People are oblivious to the forces at work in the braking system. The engineer in me actually appreciates the squeal. A reminder of the most powerful force in the car (by a long shot) hard at work.

Mine don't squeal when using but when I come off the drive in the morning the o/s/r does a little after I have released the handbrake. I suspect a sticking calliper. I need to get it on a ramp for it's first MOT next month to verify.

I drove like a nanny when bedding them in. The service rep at Farnborough recommendation was to follow the EBC bedding guidelines.

it wont, it gets better . with my experience the new pads do it for 2,000 approx miles when new and just before the end of life.

nope no noise from mine at all and I don't run the anti vibration weights either

My stock pads would fade after 2 round about I.e between 2 at Milton Keynes.with my ferrodo I can get about 3.

The m3 m4 have updated brake res cylinder thingy. (technical me). I am not sure if the m sport upgrade on the lesser cars include the same one from m cars. my standard 4 pots 330mm are the same calipers and honestly they are shocking. I want 6 pots but I ain't spending 3k on them for something I drive at weekend

I've been told it's not a warranty issue the brakes.

It's really doing my head in - original dealer i bought the car from are ignoring me and my local dealer who has assessed the car say it needs new brakes but won't be covered under warranty.

Really wouldn't expect a 45k car after less than 10,000 miles to sound like an 30 year old Lada.

That’s rubbish mate, when I took one of the technicians out to show the fault he said they’ve had so many cars in for this issue.

My car is going back as the first attempt failed and they are keeping the car for a couple of days to sort.

My car has 15000 miles on it.

It's a known issue to BMW and they also had a PUMA case open for this issue. My dealer told me all this and they were happy to have the car back in to be worked on, as long as it had less then 12,000 miles on at the time the issue was logged with them.

Which dealership did you buy the car from? Looks like both dealers are full of BS and trying to get out of fixing the issue.

The car had 11800 on it when it went into the local dealer. It's on over 12k now but luckily it went in just before the 12k mark.

I've had the car from 7800 miles bought at 7 months old from Stratstone and the issue has just got worse I left it for a few 1000 miles to see if it improved. Stratstone are honestly a joke, blatantly ignoring emails and phone calls. Won't go near them again from what I've read it's not an isolated case happens all the time once they've got your money they're off into the night!

I went to Stratstone Derby... Once and never again

The salesman asked me how much money I had in the bank and whether I'd be able to afford the car I was looking at.

I walked out and kept on walking

Speaking of Dealers, From my experience with BMW since 2008 I've found Rybrook Warwick to be the best I've been to (purchased 4 cars from there for this reason).

Latest car was bought from Sycamore which was great too.
