Enzo performance tune with JB4 questions (update:5/8/2016)
I am now on Enzo performance n20 tune, l love the tune so much until I went for a track day.
idrive said drivetrain malfunction. I data loged the ecu, it said charging pressure too high. Seems the tune it kinda too aggressive for track use. After I restart the car the drivetrain malfunction was gone. Then I drove the car on the track once more, after only two hot laps. The drivetrain malfunction came back again and this time with a engine code 0234 which means turbo over boosted. I clear the code then this never came back again. But the drivetrain malfunction keep popping out once I drive a little bit aggressively on the track. It completely destroyed my track day.... The solution from Enzo is add a JB4 as a boost controller, the reason from them is because the JB4 will send over lower boost numbers to the DME even though it will be making more boost. I just wondering anyone running this combo? I'm worry about push the n20 a little bit too far with this combo and toast the engine. Also I have a catless enzo tune, but I am on stock downpipe for now. Will change to a catless or high flow catted downpipe helps? Thx for any input! Update 5/8/2016 : After I put on the JB4 and set 1st,2nd,3rd gear boost limiter at 17psi, and run on map1. My car still went into limp mode (drivetrain malfunction) as pervious during NASA track day event. Which is super annoying, since I can only drive my bimmer nice and gentle on the track.... Just emailed Enzo, looking for their solution for this issue. Last edited by expertsedan; 05-08-2016 at 10:41 AM.. Reason: update |

Why are you pushing you car hard when you know the map is too aggressive for your mods? Please get the DP before you cause serious damage to your engine
Also grab a JB4 as Enzo said to fix the other issue ... Check the vendor section for combo deals

Piggybag is supposed to trick with the signal so ECU thinks the boost isn't too high.
ECU flesh is supposed to let ECU think the high boost is OKAY. That being said, if fleshed ECU tells you the boost is too high, there can be something very wrong with your car - some other part of your engine where the flesh fail to touch up, is telling ECU that it cannot handle the boost. Adding a JB4 can give you some serious shit even if it shut up the idrive - timing is already advanced by the flesh for one thing among all who knows. |

The only theory where ECU and Piggybag combo make sense, is 335i MPPK + Piggybag. That is because the OEM ECU fresh is not considered aggressive enough - BMW holds different opinion on how aggressive is aggressive enough. When turning to an aftermarket tunner, there is absolutely no such things.

Speak to Alex at Mission Performance.
The reason is the MAP sensor is only good for up to 22PSI, so when you boost higher the sensor is not accurate. Apparently Mission Performance can provide upgraded sensors and ECU calibrations to go with them. I would think that would solve your problem. Perhaps Enzo know this and can offer the sensor upgrades with new calibrations too? |

I doubt this is this case as you won't be anywhere near 22psi on a stock n20 turbo...

Weird, Enzo cleared up my issues with my N20 but I had the same issues with you.

Have you put S55 spark plugs in?

jb4 on tune? wow, the next post will be probably "where I can get new engine, because it just grenaded". why do you want to have 1.5 bar ? where you will have it? at 3000-3500rpm? is it usable on the track? probably no. If you have automatic gearbox its not even usable on the street, you just have big number of torque very short at then it falls down. You wont have more horsepower if you will have 1.5bar @ 3000rpm vs 1.35bar @ 3000rpm. Because power on these engines with stock turbo is made in the 5500-6000rpm region and you will have probably ~1.2bar there. So why stress all mechanical components with short torque spike, when you can have the same HP with more flat and less stressing torque curve? ask tuner to make not sky high torque/boost at midrange rpms, and to keep torque as long as possible to the redline. And throw away any piggybacks/cheatingboxes if you've chosen flash tune way - you're asking for a trouble there.

Did you ask for this Enzo tune to push more PSI than the normal Enzo tune? I would hope the normal Enzo tune had boost at an increased, but relatively safe level and didn't throw any errors. I can't imagine every Enzo tuned N20 is also running a JB4 to fool the sensor.
Anyway, running a JB4 plus a tune sounds like a recipe for a grenaded engine, like was just mentioned. |
