F30 330d Auto - Burn Smell after heavy acceleration

Hello everyone

My 3 months old 330d Sport Auto started to smell badly after heavy acceleration.

I don't like to trash my car but now and again I switch to sport and rev it a bit higher. Few seconds later burned clutch like smell occures.
It smells similar to clutch but similar to burning wires as well.
I'm a bit confused as it's an 8 speed auto so shouldn't smell clutch.
What else can it be?

I know that DPF can smell similar when regenerating but why after spirited drive for only few seconds.

AnyOne else experinced similar. ?

Thanks for any input

If the car was bought brand new, it's probably just the new being burned off of all the stuff around the exhaust. At least that was the case for my diesel, burnt clutch smell coming off of the insulation/heat shield around the turbo. It went away after awhile though.

Hi

Thanks for replyinG.
Yes the car was bought brand new. Its on 3000 miles mark now.
And all of a sudden started smelling badly.
Wonder why it didn't smell that before if it's what you saying.
Anyway I will give it a try and wait to see if it will last long.
If not will contact dealer for warranty check.

Thanks a lot for help.

I'd be suspecting extra exhaust heat and/or DPF activity. Can be quite a bad smell and catch users out, thinking something more serious is wrong. Just a thought... EU6 compliant engines have a different burn off strategy, so may use hard bursts of acceleration to help the additional burn off required by the NSC (NOx Storage Catalyst) part of the exhaust after-treatment.

Disgusting buring crayon Cabin smell F31 330d

Hi I am also experiencing a distgusting cabin smell. 2013 f31 330d.
Just had a brand new engine at BMW due to EGR fault, 2 nd time replaced in 1 year, this time whole engine had to be replaced at swirl flaps had melted and deposited debris into 3 of the cyclinders which were low on compression.
Oddly I reported the disgusting smell first which is how the found the engine fault. I thought great that was obviously the horrible buring smell and all will be fixed, but no!
After all that work has been done and I am still getting this dreadful burning crayony smell, worst after hard acceleration, but there all the time and its burning my eyes and my making my throat hurt, definately worse on the drivers side of the car. I have just experimented by pressing MAX a/c button and the smell went and intstantly smelt fresh air for first time!
But obviously very cold air, switched it off, back to horrible smell again!
If I cant fix this i need to sell it as its totally ruining the driving experience.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It definately isn't the rocker cover gasket as now has brand new engine and still doing it.
Of interest I seem to always have exhaust fumes wofting over the rear window!
I wandered if transfer case or gearbox oil could be the smell, heater matrix, though i can get hot air, electrical componant on heating system?
On anther note my auto adaptive light wouldn't work going out today, first 40 minutes of return trip, on return journey they started working!
Crikey my eyes are so bad now, after being in the car for just 40 mins!
Thanks for you time.

Could it be as simple as an exhaust leak downstream of the DPF (they get effin hot which might explain the strange smell) if they've had the engine out a couple of times? If you can smell exhaust in the cabin, that's where I would be starting my investigation.

My 330d is completely odourless, but admittedly it's a few years younger than yours.
