M Sport Hex trim- texture?

Does anyone know if the hex trim in the M Sport is textured or is it just a printed pattern and the surface is smooth to the touch?

I'm suddenly feeling compelled to switch my order from Sport to M Sport- but I'm not a fan of the hex trim in all of the photos and I really prefer the gloss black with red highlight in the Sport. If I really hate the hex once I get the car, I was thinking I could have it wrapped in gloss black or carbon (if it's not textured) Not really sure how a wrap would would turn out...likely I would just have to spend the $$ to swap it out with the gloss black pieces if I end up hating it.

While I love the M Sport aero pieces and the wheels, the interior with the hex trim just wasn't doing it for me- so my rationale was "why spend the extra $1350 on M Sport if I'm not going to be completely happy with it" I ordered Sport because I also really like the look of the exterior, and I loved the interior with coral red leather and the gloss black trim. Now the allure of the M exterior pieces and wheels are giving me second thoughts...maybe it's just the anticipation of counting each day until my ED, I'm thinking about it too much and making myself second guess my build. Just want to make any changes before it's too late. This wait is frustrating...

Apparently it's kinda like matte finish with the texture of the hexagon. A dealer here told me 335is had that option. If you want to check it out, go see if a dealer has 335is with the hexagon. It should be the same.

Thanks! (found a good pic of the 335is trim)

Actually, I'm not certain, but I don't think the 335is trim is the same as the M Sport hex trim. Here are some pics of the F10 M Sport hex trim. This really looks more like a smooth printed pattern not a textured pattern...

EDIT: I guess that dealer doesn't know much... Good thing I'm not getting it from them

Hm...yes, those photos are very clear- especially the last one. I just thought to go back and dig up this video; you get a good shot at the M Sport trim at 9min 48sec, and in the video it looks more like the 335is trim...this is confusing.

Regardless, I am going to try to change my order to M Sport- I don't want to let the dash trim be the only reason I don't get the M Sport.

Well that video is showing the Euro spec with the Alcantera interior (god I which we had that). But US spec, the F10 pic is pretty accurate. Here's a shot from the brochure.

Good luck. I know I'm getting the Hexagon with Gloss black.

I forgot about the brochure pics, thanks. Between the brochure and F10 M Sport pics, I think I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Thanks for your input!

My dealer has a 5 series in the showroom with that exact trim, which is what is going in the Msport.
It feels smooth and not textured. The 335is trim, I believe, is the same alum trim offered in the 1 series. IN person that trim looks like aluminum foil. I don't like it.
But, I'm also not a fan of the smooth hex trim either. It doesn't feel like metal either.

My order is for a 2013 335i Msport, and the I didn't like the wood trim offered either, so hex alum it is. I hope it grows on me.
The Msport has the worst trim selection of all the lines.

On the F20 M-sport the hex alu trim is not exactly smooth. It's more of a matte finish & the F30 should be the same.

"Matte" is not a texture though.
And "smooth" doesn't mean shiny in contrast to matte.

By smooth, I mean you run your fingers along it and you feel no texture, thus it's, smooth.

We're in the same boat RPM90, I've disliked it from the beginning...the hex is starting to grow on me...slowly. I emailed my CA tonight to switch to the M Sport.

There is texture on the F20. I didn't say matte is a texture, just that it doesn't look like the one on the F10 where it's plain glossy.

Isn't brushed alu w/black trim line available for US-spec M-sports?

Oh. The way you wrote it made it seem that way.

I don't know if the new 1 series has the same hex trim as the 3.
My dealer showed me the hex trim in the 5 and said it is the same.
Again, no texture.

So, seems there is variation in what BMW calls hex aluminum.

I was surprised to find there's texture on the F20 trim when I touched it, after seeing wht I saw from the F10.
Judging by the relationship between the F20 & F30, I'm more inclined to believe it'll be similar to F20 than F10.

From the ETK, the spare parts prices for alu hex is slightly more expensive than brushed alu.

I saw the M-sport F30 at the Detroit Auto Show in January. If my memory serves me correctly, the hex trim does have some texture to it, it is not totally smooth like the brushed aluminum trim. The hex trim definitely gave the interior a more sporty look. I wouldn't let the trim hold you back from ordering the M-sport, it is actually quite nice in person.

Pretty sure I saw the regular aluminum available on bmwconfig.com, not the gloss black, but aluminum with the black trim line. It does depend on interior color though. Try red leather, I think that defaults to aluminum trim and black trim line

Unfortunately, the brushed aluminum isn't available on M Sport in the US. This is straight from the 2013 ordering guide:

4MR Aluminum Hexagon interior trim
or 4AB - Dark Burl Walnut wood trim
