I wimped out because I wanted to the new Q box, which arrives Sunday...
I found the old HD+ box mostly ok, but occasionally felt a little slow to respond etc. It's always a bit of rip off if you are sat there on old gear, when new customers get the latest gear for free!
I ended up with a reduction from 38 - £31 for the package, then added the £12 multi-room.

Anyhoo, the funniest thing of the whole 1.5 hr conversation, was had in the last 2 mins after we had agreed terms, when the guy suggested I needed to pay a "£10 unlock fee" to access the discounted price. I literally laughed down the phone at him. I didn't end up paying this..

I'm assuming you got the SKy Q boxes at a heck of a deal because the reduction in TV package is, what 20%

And yeah, they wanted £10 from me to get the discount. Err no!

65 quid for 2tb. The first mini should have been free, as it's has almost always been so, but he started at a discounted 50 quid. After losing the will to live, I agreed to £20.

I've just upgraded to SkyQ, I got the 2TB box and 1 mini box free and my package has gone down to 24.80 for 18month as I got 40% discount for becoming a Sky VIP member (been with Sky 25+ years) all in all v happy with the deal and quite like the SKY Q Box as well

This link gave good info last year and is current. Jump to the last pages. Seems Sky are just not giving big discounts anymore.

We had Sky Q full package with sports and movies for £30 per month for 12 months. Cancelled over a month ago and got several different offers from Sky to stay, they started at 30% off, then went to 40%, then we got offered 50% and £15 credit on account. I was going to accept this but wanted to see what the wife thought as we hardly watch the TV, she was happy with this but when I called back the offer was reduced to 40% which I declined. Sent the Q box back and got a call from Sky last night offering 35% which I declined again as we really haven't missed it. Moral of the story is if you get an offer that your happy with take it while it's there as there's no guarantee you'll get it again.

Is not the move to rewarding loyality by the Sky VIP scheme a clear message Sky is changing their business model. They have realized, discounting was just producing churn and turnover and need extra staffing. Holding users prepared to pay produces more shareholder value.

Sky sports is another one that amuses me. The Football especially.

Eagerly Sky
Exclusive Premier League rights
European Games

Current SKY
Shared rights with BT (yes SKY have the majority)
NO EUROPEAN FOOTBALL AT ALL

So a total dilution of the package offered and the cost...hmmm.

I appreciate they're changing the model so you can subscribe to specific Sports Channels. I wonder how this will fare for things like F1 viewing figures, surely this is going to plummet which is rather sad.

Agree about the football changes/loss, they claimed at the time they were spending more money on SkyOne but I do not watch I a lot of that.

The ability to buy just the sports you want may mean they gain some F1 fans not interested in other sports. The snag still remains in having to buy the basic channels first. Main Fi only fans will watch on a PAYG basis via "NOW" streaming service

If I'm not mistaken, it's £18 for pick your own, and £20 all in for sports. Not much saving to be had...

As a continuous customer of 20 years, the rewards scheme gave me nothing at all of value. That's why I've just left.

Yep unfortunately loyalty does not pay. Introductory offers for new customers is normally better than a re-contract offer in my experience. Best thing is to switch to another provider if you can to get the introductory offer and then switch back to sky once the offer expires. You have to do the leg work but it would work out a lot cheaper.

Well 20 days to go for me. I'd better get cracking quickly watching all the new Movie Premiers coming out before I lose the service.

Should take about 3 hrs this weekend then :

Yes Transformers the last Knight is in the Movies now.

Only £13.99 to buy and 'keep'.

Had my Q setup installed yesterday and I love it. It's expensive clearly, but you can't take cash to the grave so...

The new remote is a big step up improvement too. Apparently they were only let out into the wild 4 days ago. Essentially, the swipe remote which 90% put in the drawer never to be seen again, has been modified with press arrows and a centre button. It works a treat.

Can you let us know more about the remote. Is it like this?

Hi there,
No it's not that simple one. It's not even on the accessories website yet having just checked. It looks more like the voice control swipe remote, but with clickable buttons within the swipe surface. You set within settings if you want it to behave like a swipe remote or not...

Voice searching is great too by the way. Kids are gonna destroy the batteries with that function. ... "My little pony", boom it's there, "blaze and monster machines", it's there, "Pink Floyd", boom - dark side of the moon is there... etc..

Ah right thanks. I have the swipe and standard control. I can't get on with the voice command function though. Maybe I need a Jordie accent

I've just accepted from a Sky retailer a Q box package of box set / sports / multi-room UHD package for £52 a month for 18 months. It should have had a £65 setup cost, but thanks to an error of them taking £115 up front, a call to customer services with a cancellation demand got the set up fee totally removed.

So the Q box package with 4 Sky Go sub accounts for what I was paying on the older kit and without the sports and UHD. I needed to terminate my old deal to make this happen.

I've always found as new customers you get the best deals. Never been able to negotiate a discount that beats new customer deals. So all I do now is cancel my account when its at the end and take out a "new" account under the Mrs name.
All you actually need is a different email address.
And taking a new account is a balancing act between going through sky website (Free tv etc..) or using cash back sites.
Cash back sites tend to go to a different version of the sky site and bundles are different prices. So i just look around to whichever suits me best.
