How To: Update your navigation maps
I know this sounds like a simple thing to do but realistically not everyone knows how to update their maps.
First things first, you need to get the latest map data and an FSC code. For the map data you really just need to google the one that you're looking for and you'll find a link. For North America you'll be looking for "2016-1 North America Next". As for the FSC, if you have coding stuff like I do you can extract the FSC files and generate your own code, but its honestly a pain in the ass to get working right and for the low cost of a lifetime FSC I would recommend you just pay for one. This is where I got mine from: I found it while searching around and I was surprised how fast this I got my code back. Worked perfectly for my update. Now that you have the data and the FSC you will need a 32GB flash drive to put all of this stuff on. Make sure you format the flash drive as FAT32, then load the data from your download. Once that's done go plug your flash drive into the USB port on your center console, this will appear: Click start update and enter in your FSC code: Now you wait, the ignition will need to be on, I recommend doing the update while you're driving around. After some time you'll see this: And you're done!:

I wonder if it has to do with the build date of your car? When was your car made? Mine was made 11/14 so maybe I will get this update for free too. I am going to give it a try.

i just read on the F22 forum that someone was able to update without the code, then an hour later the system prompted for it.
i will advise if this is the case with my update. |

Hi sorry for the delay...
ponster the reason it worked was because BMW stores the FSC for the next update usually, that way if someone buy a 2014 car when the 2015 maps are out they won't have to pay to update (and complain about having to pay to update).

Thanks OP, the lifetime code worked. You saved me a lot of money. I cannot believe I paid $50 for a one time code. Why are people using a community forum that is meant to help enrich themselves. I don't know why I didn't search ebay before shelling out $50 last year.

You will need to first be able to code your car (enet cable + software). If you cannot yet code then pm shawnsheridan, he will send you the link to the software. Then go to enetcables.com and purchase a cable. Get comfortable connecting to your car and using the Esys software.
Then go to this link to understand the process to generate your own FSC: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1054704 Once you get familiar with the process, pm kristzy and he will send you a small program he wrote that will help simplify the process. I know it seems like a lot of steps but I was able to generate my own FSC in about 2 mins once I understood the steps. Let me know if you have any questions.
