Good question, the F30 owners manual is vague regarding this subject. Id love to have a preset to change sport mode to chasse only for days when I'm feeling green...

1: Split-screen off
2: Split-screen on, arrow mode
3: Split-screen on, entertainment details.
4: Radio, Station WFAN from Presets list.
5: iPod, Play Last Position
6: Nav, Route Information
7: Nav, Cancel Guidance
8: Nav, Start Guidance Home

Buttons 1-3: I do a lot of driving with the nav and like to have a quick ability to toggle between full screen and the two most important split-screens.

Buttons 4-5: I like having one-push access to instantly start one of the three input modes. Prevents the need to hit "Radio" and then scroll down to "Satellite" or "AM". Same for iPod.

Buttons 6-8: The three most important navigational commands.

Shortcut Keys that can't happen (yet should): iPod Playlists, Traffic Alerts.

BJ

For all of you with the 'Navigate Home' option...how did you do this? I entered my home address, then hovered over the 'Start Guidance' option, and then held down my hotkey. This logged 'Start Guidance' to the hotkey, but it doesn't seem to be associated with that address. It will just toggle start/stop guidance for whatever current address I have in there, rather than my home address every time. Any help is appreciated.

You need to do the hover over an address you've already navigated to. Do it in your "previous trips" menu so the computer already 'knows' the address, that's how I did it.

That's the trick I learned. To memorize something, you push and hold the button on the item you would select if you pushed the iDrive button down at that time. Not totally intuitive, but easy to remember once you understand how it works.

For example, I wanted to program TPMS to a button. So, I brought up the TPMS display screen and pushed and held the memory button. iDrive says it can't memorize that screen; Huh?

So I brought up the Vehicle Info and turned to the TMPS item on the menu list and pressed the memory button thinking it would at least remember this menu screen so I could then select TPMS later, but it ended up remembering the TPMS screen as I originally wanted. Then I realized how BMW designed it and the rest of the things I wanted memorized were easy to setup.

Yeah I understand that, I was just confused as to why it wouldn't work after I put an address in. I would hover the selection over 'start guidance' and then hold the button to program. It would take, but the button would not be programmed for that address, just whatever address I happened to have in the system. (Most recent) NOT always my home.

It sounds like you are programming the generic "start guidance" function to a button and not a specific address to a button; It's a subtle difference.

Have you tried just highlighting the address line and then pressing and holding the memory button?

I was playing around with this tonight. Highlight the entry and then push and hold the memory button you want will store the destination to the button.

Also, if you touch (not push) and leave your finger there, a message will pop-up saying "Long press to store".

Interesting. The screen I want most to point a shortcut at are the "recent destinations" from the navigation, but I get the "no can do" message. Any trick to getting that one to 'stick'?

Great idea for the Day/Night screen...
i dont think i ever saw that... unless you have the premium i-drive, which i dont have

might be a stupid question, but:

isn't External device the same thing as USB drive?
what about Auxiliary cable too ?

and did you know that pushing on the "Audio" button above the i-drive round selector, selects alternatively the Radio/External/USB drive option///

so technically, you dont have to lose those 2-3 programmable button space for it.. you can just use the "audio" button..

just saying

Yeah, with NAV you can go from day (white) to night (black). Just a nice quick way to have day/night settings.

I leave mine in Night mode all the time, brightness setting of 50%. During the day, I find the black display blends in better with the dash, less of a distraction. It's still extremely legible and I don't have to mess with the brightness either.
