'Stone' chip repair advice
Ok as some are aware, I had the offspring off some irresponsible adults throw a stone, that hit the edge of my bonnet.
Pics now included. I took it to local dealer Benhams for a quote, the lad on desk on Saturday took some photos for body shop manager. Anyhow got my quote today. They reckon £513.48 + vat For the repair, xenon headlight removed, blending, respray of I believe the bonnet. To say it seems a little excessive for 2 chips is to say the least. Admittedly, in my previous existence I would just take it to paint shop on camp for a touch up. So are they taking the Michael or is that standard? Anyone advise some place decent and reasonable? No I am not doing it myself! Electronics, engineering, blowing things up = yes Painting = No. |

I would just touch up if I were you, to respray the whole bonnet for that might not worth it just yet as stone chips really inevatible on our roads and you might end up having some afterwards anyway wait until you have some more and get it done then. I totally understand if it bothers you as it's a new car, I'll be the same I replaced my headlight after collecting a massive chip on it after 3 weeks despite protection film and yet I've got another(lot smaller then before) now so there's no point really.

You'd be crazy to spend money fixing that. As crap as it is to have that happen on a new car, unfortunately they are the first of many, unless you never drive it stone chips are just a fact of life.
You should be able to get it looking better with a touch up stick, if you're dead set on a repair a chips away type service could probably help quite cheaply. |

These were caused by a kid throwing a chunk of stone up in the air and catch g lip of bonnet.
Not from driving! No I won't be getting a full bonnet respray, pointless and I believe it can be touched up without a full respray, although it can be a bitch to match etc. |

Seriously, a full bonnet re-spay is around £500 from a BMW dealership. However, if you can find a good independent bodyshop, they can probably do it for less for cash in hand. Other than that, touch up but it is a bitch to match. Always comes out dark. What BMW did with my chip in about the same place as yours but which was much bigger, was to remove the top lacquer from the bonnet, then repair and spray the offending section and re-apply the lacquer. Came out fine.
