Thumbs down <RANT-ON>LCI light switch shocking quality<RANT-OFF>

Is it me or is the F3x LCI light switch made from very cheap flimsy plastic that feels that it will break with the slightest provocation (even on the 340i model )? Everything else is pretty good (although not as substantial as my E91). On the E91 the light switch was very substantial and was even designed to pop in if you hit it with your knee.

I'm guessing you have a trip to the parts department scheduled for this weekend.

I used to bang my knee on my E91 switch on a regular basis but had a pair of pliers especially for pulling it out.

I agree. The M135i I had was better quality.

Cant say I have even touched this switch since buying the car? I just leave it to its own devices.

But will check it first thing in the morning, as I used to own a m135i, so will use it as a reference point

Can't say I've noticed any difference between the 340 and the 30D pre-lci.

Exactly, I have only moved it once since bought the car back in June 14, rest of the time it has lived in auto mode - simples

This forum seems to be full of these kind of posts these days. if this is all people have to complain about, then BMW are doing pretty well I reckon.

Maybe it's just because my 435 is the first brand new car I've ever owned in my 40 years on this planet, having had to deal with older cars that have functionality issues from time to time that mean I have to break out the spanners and sort things out and loose some knuckles in the process - but I don't really have any such complaints other than the headlights fogging up on cold/damp days.

For the record, my 2015 light switch looks fine, works fine, and I have no question of it's ability to perform it's desired function.

The whole reason for my post is that I accidentally caught the switch and the whole thing moved and is now slightly loose ... Not complaining for the sake of it! Just pointing out that the attention to detail is not as good as E91.

So basically, you broke it. That doesn't mean the quality isn't as good as the E9x.

For the record, I have owned both variants and the switch gear in my opinion was of the same quality as the F30. In fact, I'm sure a lot of the switch gear is the same....

This falls into the same category as middle lane drivers for me. Really annoys me when you come up behind a car and there's no rears on, only to find the driver thinks he's seen by everyone as he's got the switch turned to Auto.

You still don't need to touch it. Just press the fog light switches either front or rear, and the headlights come on.

Yeah. Take a bit of care with things, and maybe they won't break.

How the hell are you managing to hit that switch with your knee. You getting in and out through the window, Dukes of Hazard-style ?

I think I am in the minority of thinking that it is often murky or misty enough to need lights but very very rarely foggy enough to need fog lights when on a busy road. I will use rear fog lights if I cant see a car behind me but once someone is behind they go off to maximise chance they see brake lights!

Front fog lights have been useful in my driving life about 4 times - and I have covered about 700k miles now!

Can't say I noticed any difference in quality to be honest...

And as said before I have used this switch only once, right after collecting the car... I'm too busy keeping my hands warm on that fabulous heated wheel
