Hi I just got a pure blue 340i MPE in March. I came from an 11 S4. This is my first BMW and first time posting on a forum.

Sweet! Congrats.
Curious how you feel it compares to your S4. I was looking for an S4 (always been a big fan) when I was in the market a couple months ago. Couldn't find one in my $ range and didn't have time to wait around. Not that I'm second guessing myself as I love my 335xi, but I sure wish it had some of the M options.

Thanks guys!

I really liked my S4. The smooth power of the supercharged V6 was pretty incredible and my initial plan was to wait for the 2018 S4 to come out. But instead of waiting I got impatient and started looking at the 3 series just to compare. I just happened to stumble across the 340 I have now at the dealership. I hate to admit it, but I had no idea at the time, what the salesman was talking about when he said it was the M Performance Edition.

I was in the exact same boat about 2 months ago. Had a 2010 s4 that I loved and was seriously looking at the new s4. I wondered around merc and bmw a few times. A buddy bought a new c43 that I wasn't in love with. So it was up to bmw or Audi to impress me. Saw the fashion grey MPE at the deal and loved it. I had my name on the first s4 to hit edmonton and just didn't feel like waiting.

Went back and checked it out after it arrived a couple months later and was underwhelmed. The exterior just didn't have the aggressive look. Albeit it had an interior that was classic Audi perfection, that didn't sell me either.

The interior on these MPE with the extended marino leather and carbon fiber is mint!

Two questions. When you say extended marino leather does it extend to the dash or something? And how is the ride on the 20's on city streets?

The extended Marino includes the dash and a few other trim pieces. I think you can get it as an option in all 2017 and newer f30s for around 2000 Canadian, if I'm not mistaken.

I really don't mind the ride on the 20 at the moment. Went from 18 winter to the 20s and it didn't change much, especially in comfort. The one big thing I notice is that if I hit a ledge or pothole in the pavement it's a noticeable clunk. As far as relatively smooth pavement, which isn't really that smooth in Alberta, I think it's completely acceptable for day to day.

Fashion grey is such a cool colour. None of the dealerships around me had one so I didn't get to see one in person until the car show. The interior is far nicer than my B8 S4 and I like the simplicity.

As far as the 20's the roads around my area aren't the best. I hit a pothole so hard the other day the glove box opened. It was painful.

I was going to say those 20s wouldn't last the year in Toronto. The 401 after the winter is still littered with massive potholes just waiting to bend the wheels of inattentive drivers.

If there is one regret I have about my order was that I should have ordered the nappa leather seats and dash instead of just Dakota leather

All of your pics helped me make my decision. The interior on these really is a step above the standard 340.

How so? You get more choices of Merino leather and the leather dash is optional with the standard 340i where you can only get black Merino with the performance edition, the only option you cannot get with a regular 340 is the carbon fiber trim. Is that what you think makes it a step above the regular 340?

By that I meant the carbon fiber trim, merino leather and leather dash is nicer than a 340 without any of those (which is the vast majority). I had looked at many many 340's over the last year and not a single one had the marino leather as an option.

The point is it was an option, which anyone could have ordered. I ordered mine and considered the merino leather and dash, but wanted to stick to a price point, so I opted not to get it, but in retrospect, I should have.

So if you say your car's interior is nicer than what a lot of people have spec'd I'll certainly agree with you, simply because they didn't opt for it

I looked at the performance edition, and the lack of adaptive led and no sideview cameras ruled it off the list, I also did not want black leather. I do a lot of driving in cottage country, and I have variable light distribution working now (via coding), which you need adaptive LED for.

Beautiful car! The tinted windows really tie all the black together against the white.

If I had that kind of money, I'd seriously consider it, but I bought my car with 30,000km on it for less than half of that asking price, so it was nice to see that and remember how sweet of a deal I walked out with
40k is 60% MSRP. The M Performances do not depreciate the same as your 328i. At 45,000 Kms BMW offered me 40k for mine + 10k incentive and I declined. Cheaper to improve it - as per pics two days ago, and gained 0.3 s by ditching the 20" wheels, wider, better and 26lbs lighter (vs 405M wheelset).

I got the 340i because my understanding is it is the better daily driver. Happy with the decision because the gf already thinks noise in sport mode is too much to handle.

I got the m performance edition because I wanted the M Performance I and II packages. It makes sense to put the extra couple grand in to get everything else with it.

And ya, ok to driving away in an M3 for $75k in Canada. I've never driven one and am afraid too because I suspect it will be my next purchase if I do.
Wise choice. In winter, weeks of -40C, if i gave too much gas, my rear would spin. And it is an xDrive. The Ms now are too powerful for sub 5C temperature. Every pretentious F80 winter driver I asked admitted to nearly totalling their car in Comfort mode with winter tires...

After 50,000 kms of giving 20" benefit of doubt including the 405M and 361m Performance, I concluded they were all garbage esp with Runflats. Takes so little to bend them. How many alignments I did only to discover, winter time, that the summers failed the trueness/round test? It was not the bushings, struts, wheel balancing, but invisible 20" bends..

As you can tell, I went for ZE40s (same whom makes the x2 more expensive HREs and BBS), and saved 26lbs vs 405M and 43lbs vs 361. Gained 0.3s (0-60 4s). Equivalent to 350- 500lbs less curb weight. Comfort. Finally. Wider, more planted. Better steering feel...

Can tell why the M Performance has gone up 5k in price since 2014- they are charging the premium for engine tuneups and suspension. As if going with Dinan- but for the delta, one gets 385Hp..

This might be an extremely strange question, but do you work on the Bagotville base?

No one in Canada has posted in here for a while, but I will bump it up.

Just picked up the 2018 model of this M Performance Edition at a nice discount (end of F30 model run). Mine is Sunset Orange, and I am very impressed so far (but only several days old). Came from a 2016 340i xDrive and I swear I can feel the difference. The MPE is quicker, and feels lighter. Very fun.
