First Service
Car went in for first service today. I decided to wait for it rather than get a loaner. After about 3 hrs of waiting the service writer came out to tell me that the car is going to spend the night at the dealer (hooked up to what looks like life support lines).
I was told the car would get an entire reprogramming (ECU? other modules?), with real-time connection to BMW engineers for a previously not seen error code (presence of warning lights for air bag, abs, seat belt, parking lamp, tpms concomitantly). Not heard of this before. I will get the code descriptions when I pick the car up and will post here for others to know of. I went to retrieve some items from the car and they wouldn't let me open the doors because it would mess up the programming. I explained I had to get items from the car if it was going to stay overnight and they service guy had to crawl in through the open driver window and grab things from back seat, glove box, center console, etc. Trunk was off limits. They said it will go through some linked testing tomorrow morning before they release it back to me. Car seemed to be working just fine though. Multiple 'campaigns' (TSB?) to be performed as well. Request for auto start stop to be disabled too (which they said they will do once free of charge). Wont cost me a thing, but what a pain in the ass and a slight to BMW brand image for a first time owner with just 10800 miles on the car.

Sounds similar to my experience after the vehicle arrived back in the US after ED. Waited six weeks to be reunited with the car, then had to wait another three to four days for diagnosis and software re-installation... Now that was frustrating.

About par...there have been extensive updates on the F30 since its intro from a programming perspective.
I just had the FEM tsb taken care of...always schedule a loaner when taking it in.

My dealer ALWAYS takes longer to do anything for whatever reason. I always just get a loaner. They even kept it overnight just to install the M dead pedal that did not come from the factory for some reason (on them of course).

Obviously, they're reprogramming your ECU to 'detune' it, so you have to buy a PPK to get it back to 'stock' power levels!
But I digress, sorry to hear about all that nonsense. I have an early MY '12 build and wonder if I'll get the same treatment when I finally have to take mine in. What's interesting is that you said you got your service at 10k miles, I have 4,600 on mine and it says 13k till it needs to be serviced. At that rate, I'll have the car for 18 months and over 20k miles on the same oil. That's a bit concerning to me and makes me think I should change my own oil in a few thousand miles. As a side point, it took 3500 miles before it dropped from 14k-13k to next service and has stayed there since. I'm anxious for the PPK to come out and am tempted to dyno my car before and after (hopefully someone will do the same). Now I'm rambling and way off topic but what are you guys seeing in 0-60 times in your own car? Without truly trying hard to get a perfect launch (2nd try) I got mine down to 5.1 which isnt shabby considering I'm sure I could probably get it to 4.9 with a good launch. |

As for 0-60, g-meter apps, inexpensive accelerometers, self-timed, etc. results are useless. Only legitimate dragstrip runs will tell you anything meaningful, shy of expensive metering equipment and then be prepared to be disappointed. There are some postings for quarter mile runs, 60 foot times, etc. if you dig. |

I believe the one year old point is not indicated by the car. You just bring it in.
Of course, you can always change the oil yourself at any time. It is incredibly easy on this car. |

i'm really hesitant to do the updates. when the dealer did the oil change they bent one of my rocker panels slightly. who knows what they will screw up messing with software. i feel like if it isn't broke, don't fix it. what say you?
