Dynamic Braking Lights-

Does the F30 have this? I can’t seem to find a video of it. My dealer gave me a brochure but it seems to be a euro 2013 brochure and it lists:

 Dynamic Braking Lights with flashing function help traffic travelling behind tell the difference between a light tap on the brake pedal and a hard stop – for increased driving safety.

I have not seen any F30’s with flashing tail lights.

The person would basically have to be standing on the brakes for the additional indicator to come on, i.e. ABS activated.

If you do ever see an F30 with the extra brake lighting action, look out, because they're either about to avoid an accident, or about to have one.

Don't the hazards also flash when the dynamic brake lights are activated (i.e. you'd know if you had activated them?)

Yes, I think so. But I have not personally witnessed this.

Unlike the E90 LCI, the F30 does not have flashing Emergency Stop brake lights. Instead, the outside (normal) brakelights are activated and then the inside brake lights also illuminate brightly. The hazard lights are deployed when the car comes to a stop.

You can see the Dynamic Brake Lights in action here:

Interesting, I felt sure the rear break lights flashed under heavy braking as opposed to additional lights being activated. Thanks - it's enlightened me!

No problem! I think the F10 5 Series still flashes, and the E90 LCI does for sure, but not the F30 interestingly.

Errrm........

Perhaps the implementation of dynamic brake lights is market specific. In the US an additional light comes on, in the UK they flash?

the dynamic breaking lights just senses how hard and how fast youre steping on the breaks.
the flashing hazard lights will come on if you didnt turn off any dtc and lose tire grip for over 2 seconds and keeps flashing till traction is restored

it happened to mine when i was messing around in the snow with traction control on but didnt happen when traction control was off

This should be an interesting topic of discussion!

And it can only be solved by us performing and videoing emergency stops. Unfortunately, it's just starting to snow heavily here so I won't be able to get my car going, never mind stopping it!

Just checked my UK manual and it says exactly the same as yours. How interesting...

I'm gonna have to set up a camera and slam on! Doubt it's going to be this week though what with the snow. But I'm intrigued!

Maybe it's market specific the way BMW implements dynamic braking? (i edited my post above) but i definitely think they flash in the UK!

I was close to crashing some time ago, it was raining and my runflats were utter crap.. After breaking hard the ABS came in and i slid across the road for about 8 meters. Then came to a stop, i remember seeing the hazards come on as soon as i lost traction on the 4 wheels, i had to press the hazard button to turn them off when i recovered from the shock.

In any case, the car will warn the ones behind you when you get into trouble.

Well, I do hope they flash! I think it's more effective than another set of brake lights coming on. Huh, wonder why they would make such a minor thing market specific!

Agreed - definitely more effective if they flash. It's a tricky one to check on your own though....

Definitely. The question is, why BMW change this?

I believe it's market specific as here in the U.S. drivers do not turn on their hazards when encountering an unexpected/abrupt stop (most would not understand what it means here).

I agree that it's better but that is most likely the reasoning for making market specific.

It's not really the hazards in question. It's more that it seems in the US the brake lights don't flash (instead, an additional one is lit as in the vid above) and in the UK, the manual suggests the brake lights will flash (though it's tricky to test?!)

Just find a stranger on the side of the road and ask them to observe you fly by and slam on your breaks...

I’m SURE they will understand why haha

Did you see the video above? Seemed like additional brake lights came on the white 328i. Certainly no red flashing.

Anyone got a US manual? The UK one is above.
