My steering vibration issue revisited... 2014 F32

You guys might remember I asked about whether or not having a little vibration in the wheel was normal, if the wheel is not visibly shaking.

The answers were pretty split.

For the record my car has the following that effect steering feel: MSport and xDrive with no DHP and OEM Pirelli RFT's.

My wheels have been completely checked, all 4 road force balanced to perfection, and nitro filled to exact specs. The fronts are 32 cold and the rears are 35, exactly as BMW recommends. Alignment is correct, no odd tire wears and the car tracks straight.

I have been of the opinion that if you have MSport and are on OEM RFT that you will have vibrations in the wheel that can be easily felt when gripping the wheel, it will not really visibly shake but you can feel the vibration in the palm of your hands.

The trouble however is that after driving another 428 with the same options I feel as though it did not have the vibration. I did notice that the wheel on that car felt a little more disconnected for lack of a better term, not sure how thats possible though as we are both 428i xDrive, MSport, No DHP on OEM Pirelli RFT.

I am really not sure whether or not to just try to get over this (again) or bring it in and insist they figure out whats going on.

I feel a vibration if I'm running all seasons of summer tires until they warm up. They get a flat spot. Some roads make it vibrate, but if I'm on a smooth highway there is no vibration.

OP I got the same thing, I think it's a combination of the winter RFT's and some roads. The highway nearest to me does it, while others don't. Either way it's very very light.

I decided to get other it and wait till my Michelins go on in 2 weeks. I can live like that during winter.

Guess I'm lucky - OEM Conti RFTs on my 335i xDrive with no vibration. Vibration would drive me nuts.

I guarantee you'll feel it, just grip your wheel with two hands and get on the highway. The wheel might not shake but you'll be able to feel vibration in your hands.

I feel the same vibration. When I had my F80 M3 wheels on, I felt it even more. I thought it was the wheels, but after taking them off, I continued to feel the vibration. I believe it was due to the fact of the M3 wheels being lighter. As soon as re-installed my OEM wheels, the vibration was reduced, but still present.

I just learned to live with it. The alignment is fine and the balancing is to spec. I gave up on chasing the down the root of the problem. As anal as I am, it's a lease at the end of the day and I have moved on.
