Non-staggered winters on staggered factory setup
Forgive me for my utter lack of wheel knowledge, but I'm about to order my 335xi and will be finally purchasing a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires.
My CA informed me that the 18" Performance tire setup comes with a staggered config (18x8/18x8.5) whereas the 18' all-seasons come as a square config. So I plan on getting the 18" performace tires and am now looking on TireRack for winters. I've decided that it makes little sense to go with a staggered winter config, but I'd like to make sure that a square setup of 4 18x8" wheels/tires woudl work on my 335 that comes delivered with a staggered setup. I'm guesisng it will, but why rely on best guess when you belong to an amazing Bimmer hive-mind community. |

square setup is better as you can rotate the tires for even wear.

did you do this yourself or did the dealer do it? i'm also planning on switching out the 19" wheel staggered setup for a 18" wheel square setup for the winter and wondering if the setup needs to be recoded or anything or can I just change out the tires myself?

Just got back from the dealer and I'm happy to say my order has been submitted!
I ended up questioning until the last minute, but they happened to have a sport line in the showroom with the 19's and I loved them. So the car will be delivered with the 19" wheels in the staggered config with summer/performance tires. 19x8" front / 19x8.5" rear. I plan on getting a set of Enkei rims from TireRack that I found in a square 18x8 configuration with a set of Michelin winter-performance tires. I've heard great things about Blizzacks, but I've seen better reviews of the Michelin's....ride quality, sound, grip, etc. Oddly enough, a service adviser was trying to tell me you could get great deals on a set of BMW rims to use as winters....by great deal I'm guessing he meant a little less than $4,000. The ones I've found are great and run about $260/wheel. I'll post a pic below. Thanks for all the info guys! |

Also, will you be changing the set out yourself or having the dealer do it? Just wondering if they need to reconfigure anything. Thanks! |

They said it shouldn't be a problem. I do plan on doing it myself. TireRack does a great job putting everything together on their side (tires, rims, tpms sensors, stems, etc) and balancing as well so all you should have to do is jack your car up, take the old wheels off and put the new ones on. May have to reset your TPMS through the on-board computer, but you shouldn't need to go into the dealer for that.
