BMS JB - N20 2014 328i

Hey everyone!

Hate to make this my first post, but I installed a BMS JB (stage1) unit in my GF's 2014 N20 328i and I can say I feel absolutely no difference. I'm hoping that I just installed it incorrectly honestly.

I followed the instructions per the BMS website for the install, she has a EWG so the blue harness is the only one left disconnected and with it being stage1 I just hid it under the cowl.

Its been through a full tank of gas 93OCT (like normal) and no noticeable difference. She states its slower -- but I don't believe so just feels stock.

Any advice for a BMW noob? Or should I just wait til the sort the EWG JB4 issues for noticeable power increases.

Thats odd. Double check installation.
if needed do couple dyno pulls with map 0 and map 1

The Stage1 makes a nice difference. Maybe do a map 0 and map 1 log and email it in to BMS to double check. Perhaps its a faulty board.

Stage 1 makes an instant and big difference to factory stock. At least in my car it does. From the very first start after install you should feel the pull down low and the urgency in which the car gets up and goes when pushed, even moderately.

No need to wait for anything else, your car should be responding now if you installed the BMS properly. Have someone else (even if they don't have car experience) double check the connections, following the instruction (of course).

Whoa. Didn't expect this quick of a reply, I'll have to buy the USB tool from BMS to switch the maps.

I'm gonna remove and re-install, the unit itself doesn't require any power in stage1 does it? It gets its power from the factory connectors, correct?

David328MSport -- Thanks for the confirmation, I must say I look like a fool pestering my lady to let me buy the JB for her car and having it dud out on me. XD

I think that is the JB4 not just stage 1.

Nope. Not mine. My car goes from overnight cold into Stage 1 mode from start up. No waiting for any temperature trigger point to feel any difference.

It's the JB4, which, in certain modes, needs the temp at a certain level to trigger it into action as DS posted above.

Do we have to disconnect the battery when installing the stage 1 tune?

Instructions say so. I did but others haven't. Easy enough to do unless you have a wagon.

So, I just installed the stage 1 tune from BMS... How long does it usually take for the computer to know that I have the tune?

I'm interested in this answer also. I have a 2013 F30 N20 and I'm trying to decide if this is worth the cost.

I disconnected the battery -- I would too just to be safe, you don't want stuff sparking up! As mentioned it's easy enough to do.

I ordered the USB dongle for the JB should arrive today, I'll have to see about switching maps and finding a tuner who can do cheap dyno pulls.

Brown @ MAP

Purple @ MAF

EWG? -- So skip Blue

Routing under cowl -- Sans USB dongle.

And that was it for JB, no CAN bus connections.

Connections look right to me. Did you try going back to stock then reconnecting it? I noticed a difference right away. Something does not seem right.

I didn't take it all the way out, i'll have to try that. It's tough since it isn't my car.

I did connect the USB to the JB3 program and can confirm that it was map 1.

Anyone know how to actually switch to map 0?

Well looks like I'm just underwhelmed! Did a couple runs with the JB connected peak boost was 20.3PSI.

I couldn't pull the logs since my computer died as I was pulling into the garage. Lol

It won't make the same gains as a jb4 on a n54, n55. It fells about the same with stage 1 as my stock 135 felt.

I'd like to do the Tune 1, as well. But I'd like to see a decent video on the install. I haven't been able to find a good video, plenty of pics, but a video goes a lot further. Plus I've heard that snapping off the clips is a problem. Anyone have a link to a good video on the BMS Tune 1 install? Thanks guys. Love this forum.

I second that question... There are the informative DIY videos. Downloaded the instructions, but was still left feeling this might be more work than it's worth (although I've heard guys doing the install and uninstall in 10 minutes).

It's not more work than worth. Grab a flathead, 10 minutes. And it's done. It's as simple as I clipping and clipping in harness. Seriously guys don't psych yourself out. The people wit broken clips are morons who are Neanderthals with their patience and just tried ripping the clip out. You got this I promise! Haha

^^

I had "0" problems with connectors. The current available instructions should be sufficient. It really is dumb-ass proof. Each connection can only fit where it is intended to go. Take your time and enjoy!
