stock front wheels rubbing against fender linings?

My steering has been funky at lock for the past month or so. Additionally I've heard significant rubbing at full steering lock. Car has stock 403 19s and DHP/VSS. 2013 335xi msport. Wheels also rub w/ 18" 225 snow tires as well.

I took the car to the dealer. They have replaced the transfer case but say that they can't get the rubbing to stop unless they replace the fender liners. They say that the fender liners are a "wear item" and they want to me to pay $500 for replacement.

How do fender liners magically go bad? Should I pay the $500? Seems nuts to me.

Fender Liners area a "wear" item?!?! I call BS! Make them show you in writing from BMW that is so! Unless the liners have become deformed or several fasteners have failed, i dont see any way they "failed"! That's nonsense!

I'm still perplexed at how your wheels are rubbing. That should be the first issue. If a warranty replacement caused damage to something else, that should be covered under the replacement as well.

Stock wheels, stock height, rubbing? Thats crazy. There is definitely something else not right there.

We've got tons of guys here with wider rims and tires in the front, lowered, and still have zero rubbing.

I have stock 20s with 8000km on them, lowered on springs, and have 12mm spacers up front. zero rubbing issues ever, no matter how hard and far I turn the steering wheel.

It sounds like they're not installed properly. There's no way than can physically come in contact with the tires unless they're loose/not fastened, or your suspension is collapsed.

+1!!! Total bs. If your stock tires on stock wheels are rubbing the stock fender liners there is a manufacturing defect somewhere.

I have the same exact issue which I confirmed today by Turner Motorsports. I witnessed it myself with my car on their lift. My left wheel when completely turned to the left, rubs against the inside liner. It appears a section of the liner is popped out enough to make contact with the wheel at a full turn to the left. I am running stock 403 19"s on a 2013 335xi msport, stock height too! I am going back to BMW to see if they will replace the liner, I just bought the car 3 weeks ago and its CPO

any updates? I noticed the issue with my winter tires, put my stocks back on and still have rubbing, though not as bad

Yes! sorry for going dark. I wasn't crazy. My car was indeed misbehaving at lock due to a bad transfer case. I don't know the particulars but something else was happening that allowed my wheels to over turn such that they started eating the fender liners as well. Dealer replaced the transfer case and the fender liners. Car has been perfect since.

BMW paid for the fender liners. Not me!
