Post Great thread

I am a new BMW owner, and just come from GM/Opel/Vauxhall Saturn/Astra...

(Awaits flames...)

Please be gentle.

I'm not being funny, but I test drove an Insignia and the BMW was, frankly, disappointing from an interior point of view.

Yeah yeah, I still bought the BMW The ergonomics for the driver were still better in the BMW in my opinion. And I wanted the "car", not the "armchair".

Here's what I'd like to keep/change:
  1. The standard BMW stereo is pants compared with other manufacturers. Come on BMW, get it sorted. The Astra had a better stereo.
  2. Keep the 6 speed manual, but shorter throw.
  3. Keep the extended lighting package.
  4. +1 for a button to just turn off climate control.
  5. DSC/DTC units that don't fail.
  6. Keep the lustrous paint finishes - when it's waxed it looks that bit thicker and better than other manufacurers (ar am I just biased? Yes.)
  7. Split folding rear seats should be standard. Making them an option is just mean. How do I get my Christmas tree home this year?
  8. Just get rid of cup holders. They're useless in my opinion and are always touted as being a "feature". Are people genuinely impressed by the engineering in the cup holder rather than what's under the bonnet?
  9. A glove box that's big enough to actually put something other than a pair of gloves in it.
  10. Shades holder above the driver door in place of a grab handle.

Exactly, always found current E90's look cheap for a Bimmer if they didn't have built-in GPS. Besides the existing GPS' provided by BMW and even more so since the iDrive update, are actually very good compared to existing systems and especially in comparison to other built-in GPS'.

I would love to see conventional tires but it will not happen. Every BMW should come with satellite, Ipod and bluetooth. I like that Infiniti has the same interior regardless of GPS or not but on cars without come with a basic screen but nonetheless it is an upgrade over the gap between Idrive and non-Idrive. Some reliability fixes would be nice life HPFP, issues with lifter noise, wheel bearings and window motors all of which seem to be more common than what would be considered desirable for a premium car much less a regular car. More non-metallic colors would be nice.

Well, we might very lucky and not only get LSD but the new torque vectoring rear end coming from X6... I think F10 has it, on the specs it says rear end with "steering function"... I am assuming that's it.

OK guys most of this stuff about wanting lsd's and moar power is gonna cost too much. Obviously they can't do everything, So instead of those niche things that only people that troll these forums want

I have constructed a list of ECONOMICAL changes that shouldn't cost them very much but makes a huge difference to the majority of customers that want or should be wanting a new BMW in this economy. Hopefully some of them will be made a reality.

-Mirrors that tilt down when reversing to aid in parking.
-A better looking key Fob
-a key fob that contains the mastercard/visa smart chip technology.
-iPhone media/calling connect standard everyone has an iPhone today anyways.
-Maybe, Navigation standard or at least a screen to display media
-Ability to connect to my iPhones 3G connection to pull up to date weather reports or traffic condition to be displayed on the standardized screen.
-Better standard seats
-Redundant Power cable to charge things like cell phones or laptops when the car is not running
-heated seats in the rear
-I want the space joystick light-up shift lever standard
-Different color of fabric material for the boot, not this cheap grayish color
-Exposed stitching on the seats, even the standard ones. gives a deleicate look
-Power passenger seat as standard
-Ability to use key fob to close all windows if I forge to close them
-Ability to Turn on angel eyes for 1 minute by double clicking Lock to use as a light to open my door when it's dark. or to show of a car to potential customers
-Much Much more liberal use of ambient lighting. They make a world of difference.
-The current reading light console in the front and rear look like an afterthought, make it more organic looking.
-Individually tailored driving dynamics for different key fobs, For example when i use my key fob it may driver sportier or when my wife's key fob is used it drives softer
-Ability to set speed limits on certain key fobs (ma boys)
-keep the chilled glove compartment that is mighty sexy i have a beer in mine always.
-Add a 5th speaker for standard stereo, really it's like nothing.
-Make the folding rear seats lie flatter, it's kinda hard to have sex in the back.
-I don't know maybe it's just me, but the steering wheel isn't exactly in the middle of the drivers seat.
Secret compartments in the glove box to store stuff like cigars, condoms, drugs, guns 007 heart defibrillators, etc.

Basically, make it a womanizer's car, Bmw drivers have long been stereotyped as douche bags with sunglasses and a bluetooth headsets that care more about cars than the women we are trying to attract in the first place.

It may be what will happen, if the F10 engine lineup is any indication: the 528i has 258hp, so keep ur fingers cossed

That would be just....

Seriously though, a torque vectoring and steering rear end would really set this car off. I just hope the steering function doesn't add a ton of weight.

I think these items could enhance the next 3 series (for U.S.):
  1. Allow the consumer to purchase Active Steering on the 328 sedan (in case the model # changes I am referring to the inline 6 non-turbo engine)
  2. Include a back up camera for the i-drive (the screen is already there all you need is a small camera in the rear, we know this is not difficult) It's not just about directions and music anymore, use this to it's full potential. Remember Android Phones are taking over the market now costing as little as $100.00 to $150.00 to own with free google mapping (Verizon). BMW needs to step it up with the new F30 to incorporate the Navi to it's FULL potential making consumers say I need this BMW Navi.
  3. Offer more trims like Black Piano & Gray Popular trim in ALL 3 series F30, (it's not been fair to sedan folks who want this trim option too.
  4. For those in Hot Weathered States-Cooled air flow in the front seats would be nice on our butts
  5. It's nice that you have been adding some value packages to the line up like ipod/leather on the 328 but there are some options that NEED to be standard example: Comfort Access and Xenons, this is a luxury car after all. Xenons should be included in the price of the Prem Pkg.
  6. As an E46 owner for 9 years, bring back those window switches to the center console, loved them in that location, your hand is already there on the stick or auto and it's natural placement.

Accept it. The interior design will be taking a lot of cues from the 7 and the 5. I can already imagine what it'll look like. Now it's the exterior that must be ensured to be aggressive. Don't make it another variation of the recent exterior design direction (5, 7). It must kick ass and revolutionary.

A lot of the ideas people have put up are not realistic in my opinion.

I'm sure BMW knows that DCT is much better than the Auto we have now, don't you think?
I'm sure BMW knows that an LSD is better than no LSD.
I'm also sure that BMW knows that LIGHTER is better, so no need to mention such things.
Those things have to do with price.

However, some things that could be based on preference and not on price would be:

Real oil dipstick.

Memory seats that move with the push of a button instead of holding it.
Climate Control OFF button instead of pushing it down 6 times.

Window switches that don't make you get up from your seat just to reach them (E92 coupe).

Sun glass holder instead of a stupid ash tray that I am sure 8/10 people don't even use.

A USB port that does not require the passenger to get on their knees and search for it with a flash light.

Temperature gauges instead of MPG gauges. (Common now WTF?! I've NEVER in my life seen a car without a temp. gauge until I owned a BMW).
