Installing Shockware without spring set upgrade--Does it make sense?

I noticed this thread http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...=1#post8401524 where the OP raves about a Shockware-only upgrade to his 335i. It never occurred to me that this is an option. I'm not expert enough in these matters to figure out how the Shockware update alone will affect how the suspension feels and functions compared to the Dinan spring upgrade alone and compared to the combination of the two.

I'd love it if those more knowledgeable than I would chime in and try to analyze what the differences might be. I know it's a bit theoretical because nobody (except maybe Dinan) has done a back-to-back comparo. I was just on the verge of ordering the Dinan springs when I saw Stelvio's post, but I'll hold off until I get some enlightenment.

Bumpitybump.

C'mon guys, somebody enter some thoughts about how the Shockware would do with OEM sport springs and just how important it is to use Dinan springs with Shockware. We're talking around $1400 decrease in cost (for a 328) if you don't install the spring set from Dinan. Could the Dinan springs make that much of a difference?

I sent a question to Dinan via their web site asking if there is any issue with installing Shockware without installing the springs. In my case, I was asking about a 335i xDrive which does not have the 704 sport suspension (but does have DHP).

Scott Leandres replied:

You can certainly install the Dinan Shockware with very good results without doing the springs. Naturally the best results will come from the combination of the springs and Shockware, but you will see a marked improvement in cornering and reduction of body roll with just the Shockware alone.

Thanks, Bruce. I talked to Scott as well. It turns out that Shockware is the only upgrade that Dinan has released for the 328d, so Dinan springs are not an option for me anyway right now. He said that eventually they would be released but I got the impression that it's way down on their priority list. Most 328d buyers are not that interested in that sort of thing.
