428i to 435i Exhaust Conversion?
I have a 428i and some of us will definitely agree any -28i one sided exhaust is just a no no. Therefore I'm looking at getting the M Performance diffuser alongside the M Performance exhaust. Both being the 435i version because I want the dual exhaust setup. Now the real question, can this conversion be done? I've seen several posters get it done but I need more information on how it can be done, how long it should take, and what extra parts if any would I need? Also if any Southern California people know which reputable place would be able to do this without a problem? I've already contacted a few shops and they said they were unsure. Any helpful information would be great, thanks

Hey, i got this done on my 428i M-sport.
First, I bought a 435i OEM diffuser (Part # 51128054564) and then, I bought a used OEM 335i muffler. I went to Kings Muffler in Van Nuys, CA (http://m.yelp.com/biz/king-muffler-van-nuys) and there was some trimming to do but it all worked out perfectly. What's good about the OEM muffler is that it has the valve connector so you could control the loudness of the exhaust. If you would like something louder, I have some custom partial-straight pipes (muffler delete) that would fit a 428i flawlessly and it's a dual pipe setup, like a 435i. I will post some pictures when I get home. Hope this helped. |

There is a plug connected to your stock exhaust behind the left tip, this will also connect to a port (little black box looking thing) on the left tip of the 335/435 muffler. It controls an electronic flap in the tail pipe that opens/closes it. Unplug it to keep the flap constantly open for a more aggresive sound. Its the only wire connected to the muffler, so you cant miss it.

I'll post some once I get home but there is really not much to see lol. It looks exactly like a 435 would. I am using the performance diffuser with the finned midsection, picked up for for 200 on ebay, got the muffler for 100 from someone local on the forums. muffler shop charged 70 for the labor. I plan on getting larger tips put on, maybe a 3.5 or 4 inch tip

You'll notice that my right tip is off center, some people say theirs lined up, some said they had to maneuver the muffler hangers, some say one tip sticks out further than the other...I decided to just leave it as is because I plan on changing the tips, so when the shop welds it, they can just cut it to fit.

because I didn't want a 435, but I did however want dual exhaust.
I don't think anyone who does this mod wants to fool anyone into thinking they have a 435, if that's what you are trying to infer. Its mostly for the cosmetics and sound.

The reason I didn't keep my other system is because it was a little too loud for my taste. Have that one sitting in the garage. I have attached some pictures of my setup, the first is with the chrome tips and the second is with the black chrome tips (OEM). |

Been running the 335i MPE since spring, and I love it. It really makes a great impact on the sound and even more so in the Sport-modes. The biggest thrill is the small performance gain at higher speeds that I would say is thanks to the better flow you get. Pulls noticeably harder in speeds above 80 mph.

Look in the other thread about this conversion, it's in this section.
