the new B48 2.0 liter produces 252Ps compared to the 245Ps of the n20, so the increase is only 7ps (5kw)

5kw is nothing really. It would be interesting if that is at the same boost as the N20. 5kw can be had by some minor timing, fueling alone, let alone adding 0.5psi extra. Clearly BMW don't need to add more power - otherwise they would have. They also wanted to keep a gap between the 340 and 330i. The Competition is lackustre - the New XE Jag has 177kw and is heavier and the MB C250 isn't even close with 155kw and the new LEXUS turbo has 180kw but is positively obese.....and slow. All of this and BMW is running around with a 3 year old platform. If BMW hypothetically added a JB4 and DP equivalent - it would kill off a lot of 340i sales. (Obviously they would never do that)
