It's not so much dumb design as dumb safety regulations. Someone would be bound to sue BMW because they'd tried to change the wiper blades with the engine running just as it started to rain and got injured.

has anyone figured out to do keep then on auto? I would even settle for more sensitivity. my E90 was much better and would wipe the window more often on its own.

Oh it's really dumb to do something like that, but some people are really really dumb, and then regard it as their right to sue over it, so the manufacturers end up having to protect themselves. I say they should remove all these "safety" protection systems and take off all the labels (e.g. "product will be hot after heating") warning people not to do really stupid things, and let natural selection take its course. There'd be a lot more contenders for the Darwin Awards each year. |

Apologies if you already know this, but you can adjust the sensitivity of the wipers by the "wheel" on the wiper stalk. If it's still not enough your dealer can adjust the range up or down as well - I had to do it with one of my previous E46's.

I have the thumbwheel all the way up but its still not enough. I live in South Florida where the rain will just pour down quickly and wipers take so long to catch up i end up forcing them to wipe. Did the dealer code it for you? I look for it in coding but couldnt find it. |

Sorry, but I don't know if it is possible to default the rain sensor or headlights on. I looked for a while to find the coding to sense rain and close the sunroof like the E9x had, but I couldn't hardly find anything rain related.

NEWBIE QUESTION (I read 30 pages of this thread too!):
In the USA: I have a F30 2012 (Dec. 2011 build date), with nav and everything except enhanced bluetooth, bmw apps, and bmw assist. I want to simply add enhanced bluetooth (a2dp) and bmw apps. Is this a simple coding procedure or do I need hardware? Thanks! |

BMW Apps will require you to purchase a 6NR FSC Code and Import and Activate it, and if you want the Video / PlugIn functionality too, you have to retrofit 6NF Ejector Box (Base Plate), or replace the 6FL USB/Aux-In port with the Mini USB/AV-In port and run FBAS video line from new connector to the CIC.

Can you tell me what to look for on bmwvin.com ? I don't know a lot of the codes. So if I have 6Nk or 6NL, I can code A2DP and that's it? Also, for BMW apps, I just need to purchase a code, import, and activate? If so, is the importing and activating just copying a file to the car through Esys? Thanks.

Yes, you can just purchase the 6NR FSC Code for about $200, and have someone import and activate it in the CIC. It can be done in E-Sys, but few actually know how, and use other tools or ISTA/P for this. Your dealer will most likely tell you that they can't even order the FSC Code, so you have to go elsewhere. If you want a source, PM me. Understand though you will not have any Video / PlugIn functionality without hardware modification.

I still cant comprehend advantages of turning auto stop off except might be just personal choice?
I am coming from a civic hybrid where auto stop, on off is way more harsher and jarring that BMW F30 was totally smooth and unnoticable to my senses |

I have the 6NH. Does that mean I can't put A2DP or BMW Apps on? Also, if you're leasing, would you not do any coding? Thanks. |

As for leasing and coding, it wouldn't phase me. You can always return it to original coding before turning it in.
