In my m6 the JBE is in the passenger footwell behind side trim and glovebox.

I never bothered trying that I just used the ciggy lighter 12v from the centre console.

Is there any method of saving memory in the steering wheel heating switch? and to increase the heat in the steering wheel? my steering wheel seems to heat more in one part than in another.

Have you got self-heating steering wheel?

So I finally finished the install.

I already had power at pins 9 and 11 on A83*1B so moved them to pick up power at pins 1 and 3 on the airbag connector and verified with multimeter.

I have completed the coding but no luck!

ISTA gives me the message of wrong version of SZL and steering wheel heating button not installed. This sounds like I might need a different SZL. The pins are in the button connection socket so I thought this would work

My SZL is part number 9351140. Has anybody got heating to work with this SZL? if not which SZL will work?

Thanks

If I had read the first post properly I would have been able to answer my question.

Now need to find a suitable SZL! sigh!

Did you code with esys?

Were you able to enable the heating functions there?

Yes coded with E-sys but ISTA says no button installed and wrong SZL.

In the first post it says SZL 9351140 doesn't support heating and RealOEM seems to confirm this unless anyone knows different and has made it work

Even though the SZL has the socket for the heated button switch I guess it doesn't do anything. I have ordered another SZL - 9351143 this should sort it and I won't need to use the airbag pins as I already had 12v on pins 9 and 11 on A83*1B.

That's weird the szl has the slot for button but doesn't work. Any more info on this?

Also any info on the heat control unit work for just the heat even if it has the vibrate function too? So using the heat n vibrate control unit for just heating?

Thank you.

Fitted new SZL and bingo!

I can confirm that my control unit is for both heat and vibrate and there is no issue with not having the vibrate function connected or enabled.

If anybody in the UK wants a pre made connector for picking up power from the front airbag connector to the heater controller let me know and I'll be happy to post FOC.

Thanks

Can anyone answer this. I want to buy a wheel that has the paddles and heat functions. Would I be able to install the wheel now with out any issues. While I get together the other parts needed to make the heated part work?

Thanks!

So if I buy the steering column switch will I still need to supply power for the heated part?

I am confused on what buying the switch actually does?

With the new switch will everything work with out coding like the old one? I just need the coding done for the heated part?

Hope this makes since.

The first picture is the control unit for a m-sport steering wheel and the controller goes into the bottomright of the steeringwheel itself.
The second picture is the controller for non m-sport steeringwheel. No idea if it goes into the steeringwheel or the szl, but i’ve just checked my old, standard steeringwheel (wich isn’t heated and doesn’t have a vibrate motor, only MF buttons) and there’s no controller inside the steeringwheel...

Edit: after just a couple of minutes searching I found this picture where there’s a lead to a cut-away in the shape of the controller. My standard steeringwheel also has this cut-away, but since I didn’t have those options there were no wires to it and I wasn’t sure it is the right place for the controller. Maybe someone can confirm? It’s in the same place as the controller in my m-sport steeringwheel so I bet it goes there.

If it’s the correct szl, No, you’ll only need to pull 2 new wires. 1 from the fusebox to the szl and 1 from fem to szl.

Take a look at this thread:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1231186
In the lower half of the first post is the write up for adding the wires and in the third post there is a link to the pictures. They don’t show where the wires are going to, but you can see to wich connector and wich pins you need to add the wires.
I haven’t made my own pictures since I haven’t completed the retrofit yet, i’m just doing my homework before I get started...

I am slowly starting to be able to visualize what needs to be done. There is a video that shows how to install paddle shifters and it shows the fem on the passenger side where you need to install the ground wire according to these heated wheel instructions.

I am doing both heated and paddles at the same time.
