Eye on a 440i GC
My 335d is due for its first service tomorrow and I'm thinking about a possible change. It's March 2015 with 15k miles and pre LCI and I'm thinking about tactics for dealing with the dealer.
I've run off a C2C quote which looks good, but I've never been in a position where I've needed to trade a car / sell privately in order to get into a new car and I'm not sure the best way to go about it. I've seen a lot of posts from people on here who seem to change cars very regularly - I'm on a PCP and I'd be interested to hear how you normally go about it. Do you simply drop the C2C spec into their lap without prices or is there some other tactic? Obviously if something was looking good I'd also run past TRL but I'm thinking I want the minimal amount of hassle with getting rid of the existing car as I don't fancy selling privately. |

Just go in the dealer and ask some questions dude, go armed with the C2C quote like many say.

You've got two things to consider here - equity (if any) in your car, and dealer reaction to your C2C quote.
I was in exactly this position a couple of weeks ago before placing a new order. On your existing PCP, the first thing to do is get a settlement quote from the finance co., and then get a rough idea of value from parkers, webuyanycar, etc. If you have equity, happy days. I was a bit short, but had paid more than half my total value of credit + interest, so am voluntarily terminating, so that's also an option. Dealers will of course try to help even if you have a bit of negative equity, but ultimately they will take it out of the discount they are offering you off list. For the C2C quote, it depends on the dealer. I tried to give the business to my previous dealer, but they started the whole bullshit teeth-sucking routine and I just can't be arsed, so they lost the business. I ended up going with Coopers Reading who say they do quite a lot of C2C business, and have been nothing but friendly and responsive. |
